Disclaimer: I don't own the show Rurouni Kenshin, nor any of the characters and I am making no profit off of this.

In the end, only the fittest survive in this world. If you are strong, you live, if you are weak, you die. Self explanatory. That is the single, simplest, true, most universal law. It defines our race. It is an unbreakable law of nature; it applies to animals, as well as humans. How barbaric, but it's the truth.

Protecting the weak with a sword is stupid. Swords are meant to kill, not save. Protecting the weak is a senseless, useless act. A sword is only capable of one thing, and that is pain and death. I have lived by a sword, I know.

I was so young, the first time I ever killed, a member of my family.

"Are you crying?" There was a silence. I turned to him and smiled. "No, sir."

I lock away my emotions, so I can always smile. That way, I can make it easier for myself. It worked then, and it works now. If I just smile, then it'll eventually be okay. Even if it hurts, or I want to cry, I have to smile, because I am strong.

"Mr. Shishio, can I become stronger?" "Yes, second only to me."

I am strong, so I will survive. I have to survive. I must survive, and I must smile, and continue as I have always. I won't become weak, I can't become weak. It is only a disability, so in the end, you die. Mr. Shishio taught me that. And he is right; only the strong survive in this bloody, wretched world. And I for one, won't be a saviour for the weak. The weak can't be saved.

In the end, only the fittest survive in this world. If you are strong, you live, if you are weak, you die. It is as simple as that.

I was thinking that maybe one day, I might rewrite this. But I was in a hurry to get it done, so watch out for changes; this'll probably eventually be longer too.
