Alec looked around, wondering when everyone else had left. There were only three of them left standing there –himself, Isabelle and Jace- around Max's grave. He bit his bottom lip roughly; he didn't like that, didn't like the sound of it...Max's grave. It wasn't right. Max shouldn't be there in the ground, he was just a kid. It. Wasn't. Right.
Alec looked at his best friend standing next to him. Jace was looking down at the headstone, a blank expression on his face. Alec would have thought he didn't care that Max was dead, if he hadn't have seen his eyes...his eyes showed all the sadness and hurt he was feeling. Alec looked over at his sister. Isabelle was on Jace's other side, on her knees on the ground next to Max's grave. Her head was bent forward but Alec knew tears were streaming down her face...she felt she was the reason Max was here.
Alec's attention was snapped away from his sister as Jace spoke. "What's he doing here?" Jace's tone was dark and annoyed. It was the same as when he was itching for a fight.
Alec turned to follow Jace's gaze up the hill, to where someone was standing in the shadows of the only tree that occupied the hill. He recognized the persons figure even from way down below the hill. 'Magnus...?' He took a step forward towards the hill, but stopped as Jace's hand wrapped around his upper arm.
"Wait here. I'll make him leave." Jace said and started towards the hill.
Alec grabbed his wrist and Jace turned to look at him. He frowned deeply at Jace. "He doesn't have to go anywhere. He isn't doing and hasn't done anything wrong!" He said as he moved to stand in front of Jace, his frown deepening by the second. "Why do you have to be like that about him?"
"Alec, are you kidding me? He shouldn't be here. He had nothing to do with Max." Jace said taking a step closer to Alec.
"No, he didn't...but I did –in case you forgot, I'm his brother- and Magnus has everything to do with me, so he has a right to be here." Alec said lowly, but angrily. He turned away and started towards the hill. "Look after Izzy." He said over his shoulder. A short while later he reached the top of the hill. He walked to stand in front of Magnus. He stared up at the older man.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean for you to notice I was here. I was just making sure you were alright. Then I was going to leave." Magnus told him. He reached out to trace his knuckles over Alec's cheek, but pulled away before making contact. "I know I shouldn't be here, I'm sor-!" He stopped when Alec rested his head against his chest.
"Don't say that. I'm not mad." Alec said as he fisted his hands in his older partner's shirt. "I'm glad you're here. I wanted you here. I just...didn't know how to ask you to come with me and...we'd been arguing anyway so..."
Magnus lifted Alec's face –cupping his cheeks- so he was looking up at him. "I would have come with you. And I don't even remember what we were arguing about."
Alec smiled sadly. "About me not telling-!" He was cut off as Magnus pressed his lips to his in a short, sweet kiss.
"That doesn't matter right now. I just want you to be alright." Magnus said and wrapped his arms around Alec, holding him close.
Alec clung to Magnus. "I'm not okay, not yet...but as long as you don't go anywhere, I think I will be."
The End!
