CHAPTER ONE

The alarm clock blared and a heavy pounding noise

was heard from downstairs. Clarissa Morgenstern got up, with her bedsheets

falling around her waist. She rubbed her eyes sleepily and groaned. It was too

early for her to put up with her brother, Jonathan, who was probably the cause of all

the racket. She sighed heavily and pushed her blankets, getting up from her warm bed.

Mr. and Mrs. Morgenstern were away, at some business conference and wouldn't be back for another three days. This was probably the reason why Jonathan was up so early, banging on his 'professional' drum set, trying to 'enjoy the limited freedom' as he put it.

She opened the garage door and leaned on the doorframe. Her brother was amazing but she would rather put her head under a truck than tell him. He had a strong athletic build and white blonde hair contrary to her short stature and curly red hair. The only thing that was similar among the twins was their spring green eyes. Clary thought that it was unfair that they were twins and yet he was the good looking one among the two of them.

"Jon! Ithought you told me to enjoy our freedom- Jon?!"

Jonathan Morgenstern was very popular in their high school. He was on the drums fkr their school band along with his best friend Jace Herondale, who was the lead guitarist. Jonathan was trying a new beat for the past one hour and yet somehow everything he tried seemed off-tune. After fifteen minutes of non-stop drumming, he noticed his sister standing at the door. Apparently, she had said something.

"I'm sorry, what?"

Clary let out an exasperated sigh and put her hands on her small hips.

"You said we should enjoy our freedom! How can I if you keep pounding on this things relentlessly, making me go deaf!? Its too early, Jon, I wanted to sleep in!"

"Those 'things' are called drums, sister dear. And anyway how is it enjoying if you just sleep in the entire day? Why dont you go and do something with your friend, Isabelle, isn't it?"

Clary rolled her eyes and went into the kitchen. Isabelle Lightwood was her best friend apart from Simon Lewis. She was desperately trying to get them together but apparently none of her plans were working out for her. She pulled out her phone and texted the two of them to meet her at the mall in another hour.
