Song Prompt: Lifehouse Feat. Natasha Bedingfield: "In Between the Raindrops"

Disclaimer: I do not own the song, lyrics, or my friends who inspired this short story, though the awful things never happened to them.

I'm holding on to her hand through the storm, our storm, both figuratively and literally. The literal storm blew up out of nowhere. The heavy rains caused mudslides, destroying her house. We've both been through so much. From my crazy controlling family to her abusive one; we had literally survived everything imaginable.

But, we stood strong, together. We "walked between the raindrops and rode the aftershocks" of our lives. With the destruction of her house and the death of her family, we were finally free. My family disowned me for choosing her, but I'm okay with that.

We both have well-paying jobs so we can support ourselves. Emerging from the rubble with her by my side, I felt like the king of the entire world and nothing was bringing me down this day.
