Trust... What did the word mean anyway. With trust came responsibility. It came with security. It came with the feeling that all of your secrets, that everything important to you would be kept safe, you were trusting the person. You believed one hundred percent that this person, this person that you are trusting everything to, would come through for you. But along with all these things, like responsibility and security, there was one thing, one really big thing that was also part of the deal.
Betrayal.
Eventually, they are going to betray you. They are going to betray your trust. They are going to stab you in the back, then walk away like you don't even matter. Like the bond that they shared with you meant nothing...absolutely nothing. Then you cry. Because that's the only thing you can do.
You cry.
You cry until you can't anymore. Now you're just an empty shell. A hollow body of who you use to be. You can't laugh with anyone like you laughed with them. You can't smile like you use to smile when they were still there. When they didn't betray you.
When you still trusted them.
You try to trust again. You try to laugh and smile like you use to. But it doesn't work. It never works. So you give up.
You stop trusting.
Who needs trust anyway. The only one you can really count on is yourself. You tell yourself over, and over that you can trust yourself, that there's no way that you could betray yourself. So you continue on, only trusting yourself with your secrets, with everything, because you don't need anyone else.
Then you meet someone. He's handsome. He has a beautiful smile, beautiful blue eyes. When you accidentally touch his hand, your heart starts to race. He's stupid, but he makes you laugh. He makes you laugh like you use to. You find yourself smiling when you hear his name, or you see anything that reminds you of him.
You start to trust him.
But your scared. So you run away. You keep telling yourself not to look back, but you do anyway. He looks sad. He's crying. He looks empty.
You see him from afar weeks later. He doesn't see you but you see him. You want to run away again, but you can't stop staring at him. He's with a girl. But he's not laughing, he's not smiling like he was when he was with you. His heart doesn't beat fast when their hands brush, his face is stoic, a mixture of anger and sadness. He is trying to look happy though.
Your heart is breaking. No, it was broken long ago. But he fixed it. And now he's breaking it.
You tell yourself that you don't trust anyone. That trusting will just hurt you. But, by not trusting, you hurt yourself. you betrayed him.
You betrayed yourself.
You cry.
You stop trusting.
You see him again. But this time he sees you. You run again. But this time he follows You. He holds You. You cry again, but he's crying with you. you feel his heart beat getting fast. He touches your hand. Then your cheek. Your heart beats getting fast now too.
He kisses you.
And you trust him.
Because you love him.
