Catherine can hear Sara's voice echoing from the other room, and braces herself against the sink.
"Catherine… I don't think I can do this."
The fact that Sara's voice is trembling makes her stomach turn. Catherine knew this would come, feared it with all her heart. Sara is giving up.
Catherine looks in the mirror with disdain. She needs to be strong, and the woman staring back at her looks nothing but ready to break. With a deep breath, she emerges from the bathroom.
She sees Sara sitting on the bed with her arms wrapped tightly around her knees. Catherine tries to shake the thought of how small she looks, and sits down next to her.
"You can," Catherine says. She strokes Sara's cheek to get her to look at her. "I'll be here no matter what happens. You don't have go through this alone anymore." With one look into Sara's eyes she tries to convey everything she feels for the younger woman, the strenght she wasn't sure she had in her.
Catherine keeps telling them both that everything will be alright. It's what she clings to when the fear gets out of control, and what she knows Sara stopped telling herself a long time ago.
Sara shivers slightly and holds onto the only person she'd ever allow to see her like this.
"Let's go then."
