Linchpin: something [or someone] that holds the various elements of a complicated structure together.

It's amazing how one little thing, one linchpin, could cause a series of events to unfold. Like a domino train, knock the first one over and the rest are sure to follow. It could be something as simple as a single command said to a child; a command that would forever influence their actions, for better or worse.
One command that would create a bond so strong that nothing could break it. One command that had the power to change everything. One command that instilled a purpose in a young boys mind that would last forever.
Watch out for Sammy.
