My one main goal was to keep him safe. I couldn't bare to loose him. He was all I had left, the one glimpse of light, in this dark, dark world. He was more than my work partner. He was my LIFE. Before he came along, I felt so... lonely. He gave me a reason to keep on living. That's why I couldn't let him die. I knew he'd be angry with me for doing this, but at least he'd be alive to do so. I had come so close, no way in hell was I about to give up now. I had collected seven hundred and fifty-seven souls. So close, yet so very far from the number I needed. Killing people who are not on the list has serious consequences, and I knew that. It was a risk I was willing to take. He was getting worse by the day, and I knew I was running out of time. That's when I formed a partnership with a sickly sadistic human. He was torturing young women, and by killing them, I was not only getting closer to my quota, but also saving them from such agonizing pain. That's when he caught me. "Eric! You're the one who's been killing all these young women?!" he shouted at me in shock, when he saw me standing over one of the dead bodies, death scythe still in my hand. "Alan..." I started. "Why would you kill all these innocent people?" Alan asked. "To save you!" I exclaimed. Alan's face showed disappointment. "So, my suspicions were right." he said. "I didn't know what else to do! There was no other option!" I exclaim, my voice cracking, tears threatening to fall from my eyes. "Eric, promise me you won't kill anymore people for my sake." the brunette begged. "I'm sorry, Alan, but I can't do that. I will NOT sit here and let you die!" I exclaim, grabbing his hands, emotion practically bursting from me. "Eric, please! I don't want these people to die to save me! I can't-" he was cut off by a fit of coughing, falling to the ground and clutching his chest. "Alan!" I exclaimed, worriedly, dropping to my knees, beside him, and holding him up.
