A/N: This was a response to one of chpstks_in_hair challenges on lj, specifically #11. It's an old fanfic I've made. The last I ever did. I'd still like to share it, in hopes of getting feedback.

I'm falling.

And I'm falling fast.

In his dreams, he had fallen so many times. But he was always so fortunate in his dreams. When he falls, sometimes he would find himself able to land safely onto the ground. Sometimes, his dreams would stop before he had even hit the ground. Sometimes, there was someone there to catch him and break his fall. In his mind, he hoped that this itself was a dream; that he'll wake up before he would hit the ground. He'll wake up and find himself in his home, in his bed, safe. He closes his eyes and desperately wishes that he would wake up now. But he's not waking up from this dream. It isn't a dream.

I won't wake up before I hit the ground.

He tries to recollect the last few seconds. He distinctly remembers leaning against the window before the window itself gave out. And here he was now, falling. That window he had fallen from is now too far from his grasp; too far to save him from his ultimate demise. Then, he narrows his eyes and sees some vague figure at that particular window. He could hear them, shouting his name. He knows it's Himawari. Yuuko had warned him over and over again about the dangers - the consequences of Himawari's presence. He wants to believe it to be coincidence. But even he knows better than that. There is no such thing as coincidence. But he strongly believes it isn't her fault.

It's mine.

He looks at Himawari and finds her figure fading away. Her shouting becomes desperate, and he could hear her holding back her sobs. Her voice sounds so worried, so scared. He feels something wet at the corner of his eyes, and a salty taste enter his taste buds. He realizes that he's crying too.

I'm scared.

Someone save me.

His heart beats fast and his breath is caught in his throat. The air whips around him, and he finds the snatches of the earth and sky rapidly twirling themselves together. It makes him sick to his stomach. He's falling, and he's falling fast. In his dreams, he was always so fortunate. Now, there's no one to save him this time. He closes his eyes again, in unease and apprehension.

Doumeki...

He never realized that the name had left his lips. It scares him, but at the same time comforts him. He never realized it before now, but he had grown accustomed to someone always being there, always ready to catch him when he falls or protect him from any danger. He never realized that he had become used to his presence always there beside him. And now he's sorry he never realized it until now because he would never have the chance to tell him thanks. He chokes back a sob. He knows he only has a few more seconds before he hits the ground. His chest is constricted with fear and his breath is coming out in ragged gasps.

He's not coming to save me.

Never had he felt so lonely in his life. And suddenly, he's stopped falling. A thud, a crack, and a scream resound in his head. Pain engulfs his whole body. His vision is blurred with pools of red. His surroundings, his world, become a thing of the past as the darkness swallows it whole.
