"What about this?" Shizuka backed away from one of the shelves filled with porcelain and glass statuettes of random animals. In her hands she was holding a rather brightly colored labrador sculpture.
Mai smirked slightly but shook her head. "Come on you know that's only going to provoke a fight." Not that she didn't enjoy teasing the idiot once in a while but thinking about him getting upset on Christmas was hardly pleasing.
The trinket was put back on the shelf with a disappointed sigh. "This is so difficult!" Why couldn't her brother be easier to shop for.
Anzu's hands went to her hips. "Don't give me that. Try shopping for Yuugi when his only interest is in gaming and he runs a game shop. Now that's difficult." He was impossible to shop for. Sure whatever she brought him for birthdays or other holidays always garnered a thanks and 'oh I like this' but she could tell he was putting on a show. She just never seemed to get him the right things. She didn't want to bother with other games. Their shop got in the latest every now and again and he always treated himself to things he was excited about miles before she could even get a leg up.
Shopping for anyone these days seemed a real disaster.
A thoughtful hum came from Mai's lips. "Maybe we shouldn't get them anything." That would certainly cut all this fussing short.
"We've been to every shop in the mall." Shizuka pouted, really losing faith that she could find something extra awesome for her older brother this year. "There just doesn't seem to be anything."
"Maybe we're going about this all the wrong way." Anzu mused, eyes closing in thought. Though she really wasn't getting very far.
Mai certainly had had enough, folding her arms. Truth be told she was getting more than a little frustrated. She was getting angry. Why couldn't boys be simple to shop for? Why did this have to be on their shoulders? "The only thing they all like is stuffing their faces and we can't exactly buy them a bunch of food. Talk about tasteless."
Shizuka tilted her head, cogs in her brain starting to chug sluggishly for the first time since they'd gone out. She'd only been picking at random hoping to see something that would spark interest. That hadn't worked yet. But what Mai said had her getting to something finally. "We can't give them a bunch of food," she agreed quietly, "but what if we give something to them that's worth food?"
Anzu finally caught on with a snap of her fingers. "That's it!" And then frowned. "…then again, gift cards are kind of cheesy…"
Long arms swooped around both girl's shoulders as Mai led them out of the shop. "No one would dare accuse us of not putting thought into this." Seeing as how they'd been out for hours now trying to find these idiots gifts.
"Money is certainly tight this year. I'm sure he'd love it." Shizuka beamed a little, thinking good on the work they'd done. Jonouchi did, in fact, love stuffing his face. And maybe if he was smart he'd save it up for times when he was without. His sister doubted he would, though. Maybe she'd poke him in the ribs about it later.
"It's gotta be burgers. Something like that." Anzu couldn't help herself. She hated the idea of just gift cards, so she put a note in the back of her mind to go out shopping by herself a little later. Something of a more… private gift for her boyfriend might help the situation. Or at least help her feel better.
Mai stopped for a moment, peering back over her shoulder at the shelf they'd been pondering over. "…maybe a stocking stuffer would help him feel better." Perhaps feeling a bit on the cruel side but seeing Jonouchi get flustered so easily over things like that was too amusing to pass up.
"You're terrible!" Shizuka said yet was still smiling pretty hard. Anzu couldn't resist hiding a few bursts of laughter behind her hand as well.
Now it was just a matter of picking a restaurant. How hard could that be
