His Pillar of Light
"It can't be."
"It can't be."
"It just can't be..."
The simple sentence of defiance repeated in his mind – creating a barrier – guarding against the pain that would come if he did not continue with this denial. He could not – would not – accept that the years of friendship and care meant nothing. All the faith and trust he placed into that relationship, the support, the happiness… the smiles… he did not understand how anyone would suggest her to do anything so contrasting to her nature… or… what he believed to be her nature. No, there was not a doubt in his mind that what they were telling him was wrong – it had to be, there was simply no argument about it. They must have taken her. It was the only explanation. The conclusion brought him no comfort though. He did not know when he came to rely upon her light to such an extend, but it happened. She stood tall in the ever growing darkness that surrounded him. She was the pillar of hope and purity he fought for, and he failed her. He swore to protect her, and he failed. Failure. How could he have failed her?! It was all his fault! He was nothing but a disgrace! A disgrace to his name, to his promise, to her… the most loving and innocent girl he has ever met. Damn it! He should have been there for her! He should have saved her! ...he has to save her… whether they stand behind him or not. No matter if the people he had grown to think of as always fighting for good marked him a criminal, he will do what is necessary to bring his pillar of light back.
He must save her…
He must save her.
He will save her.
