Still don't own them!

Damn Covers

Cloud shivered slightly and opened his eyes. The room was pitch black and silent except for the rustling of covers as his partner shifted in her sleep. It took a moment for his sleep-clouded mind to clear but when it did, he was suddenly even more aware of the cold. He glanced down to see the covers were no longer sitting over him. He sighed and looked to the side, glaring as he saw the brunette wrapped snugly within them.

Reaching forward, he grabbed the edge of it and pulled quickly. She jerked awake by the sudden movement and sat bolt upright. Cloud acted as though he hadn't noticed and settled back down, pulling the covers over himself.

"You woke me up!" Aerith cried.

"You stole the covers!" he replied, closing his eyes. Aerith glared and grabbed the covers, attempting to pull them back but Cloud had already grabbed them and was keeping a tight hold.

"You didn't have to wake me up!" she said, pulling harder.

"I wouldn't have had to if you hadn't stolen the covers!" He gave a harsh jerk to pull the covers back. The next thing he knew, he heard a yelp and a thump. He sat up with a look of horror in time to see her get to her feet.

"I'm so sorry," he whispered, getting out of bed and walking over to her and holding her against him. "Are you hurt?" he asked, pulling away a little.

"A little bump, it's nothing," she replied. "It'll bruise most likely." He frowned, clearly feeling guilty for causing her any pain.

"I'm sorry," he said again, letting his cheek rest against hers as his arms pulled her back to him. He felt her smile.

"You're forgiven," she muttered, stepping backwards to sit on the bed. A second later, she felt the bed shift in weight, indicating that he had joined her. She felt his arms wrap securely around her waist before he whispered:

"This way, we can share the covers."

Aerith couldn't help but smirk. If stealing the covers resulted in Cloud cuddling her at night, she was more than willing to try again tomorrow.
