Ayano Sugiura and Toshino Kyoko were nineteen and had been dating for a few months. Ayano used to consider Kyoko her biggest rival, but deep down she always liked Kyoko. Kyoko had been oblivious to both Ayano's angry and romantic feelings for Kyoko for years. After years of antics the two of them finally admitted their feelings to each other and had been happier than ever.

One day Kyoko was walking Ayano home. They had been visiting Kyoko's parents. Ayano said, "Your parents are nice."

Kyoko replied, "I'm glad you finally agreed to see them. I had been gossiping about you for so long that they wanted to see what you were really like."

Ayano nervously asked, "Gossiping?"

Kyoko nervously laughed and said, "I told them a lot of rumors about you."

Ayano angrily asked, "What did you tell them?"

Kyoko answered, "I told them that you might have a third eye, a laser ray from another planet, and feet that can make you fly."

Ayano asked, "Why would you tell you parents such nonsense?"

Kyoko answered, "I knew you'd be embarrassed if I told them that you were the best at holding hands and kissing so I had to make up something."

Ayano replied, "That's probably for the best. Since you made me sound weird your parents probably had low expectations of me and they ended up not thinking I was too weird meeting me."

Kyoko jokingly asked, "Can your feet fly?"

Ayano sighed and said, "No."

Kyoko said, "Your parents will probably want to meet me sometime soon."

Ayano replied, "I'm not so sure about that."

Kyoko asked, "Why not?"

Ayano looked embarrassed while saying, "I haven't told them that we're dating."

Kyoko was surprised so she said, "I told my parents about us as soon as possible."

Ayano replied, "I hope you're not trying to make me feel guilty. I wish I had the guts to tell them about it."

Kyoko said, "No need to feel guilty, but they should know. It might make them happy."

Ayano nervously replied, "I don't know. They might ban me from dating you."

Kyoko said, "You should tell them today."

Ayano replied, "I want it to be done when I"m ready."

Kyoko said, "Okay."

Ayano and Kyoko were almost at Ayano's house. Ayano and Kyoko kissed goodbye. Ayano pranced into her house with a blushing smile on her face.

Mrs. Sugiura said, "Hi Ayano."

Ayano replied, "Hi Mom."

Mrs. Sugiura looked at Mr. Sugiura. They spent a brief moment communicating with each other without words.

Ayano asked, "What's going on?"

Mrs. Sugiura answered, "We need to ask you something important and please don't play the denial game this time."

Ayano nervously asked, "What's going on?"

Mr. Sugiura asked, "Have you started dating someone?"

Ayano asked, "Why would you ask me such a thing?"

Mr. Sugiura answered, "We've noticed your change in behavior."

Ayano asked, "What do you mean?"

Mrs. Sugiura said, "You have been prancing around the living room looking like a princess who's found his prince."

Ayano had a really embarrassed smile on her face while asking, "Have I really been doing that?"

Mrs. Sugiura said, "You've been doing it a lot for the past few months. When I was cleaning your room last week I noticed you put a lock on your diary."

Ayano replied, "Um, secrets are important."

Mrs. Sugiura said, "We also noticed all the paper hearts you've been drawing. You used to think paper hearts were stupid."

Ayano blushed with fear while saying, "I feel like having a snack."

Mr. Sugiura responded, "Please just answer the question."

Ayano looked a little sad while saying, "I have been dating somebody."

Mrs. Sugiura responded, "No reason to be ashamed Ayano. This is wonderful news."

Mr. Sugiura said, "We want to meet to meet him."

Ayano nervously said, "That's a bad idea."

Mr. Sugiura replied, "We just want to know his name and what he's like. It should only take ten minutes as long as he's not a criminal or anything."

Ayano sighed and said, "I'll try to schedule it sometime soon."

Mr. Sugiura replied, "Have him come over tomorrow."

Ayano responded, "Fine."

The next day Ayano went to the living room and said, "I'm going to go bring the person I'm dating here."

Mrs. Sugiura replied, "Okay."

Mr. Sugiura said, "Don't feel nervous."

Ayano nervously responded, "Thanks for the advice, but that's rather hard to do."

Ayano ran to Kyoko's house and knocked on the door. Kyoko opened the door. Ayano said, "My parents finally found out that I'm dating somebody and they pressured me into inviting you to the house."

Kyoko smiled and replied, "Okay."

Ayano said, "This isn't going to be a nice time."

Kyoko asked, "Why not?"

Ayano said, "They don't know who I'm dating yet."

Kyoko responded, "I'm sure my obsession with snacks and goofy sense of humor will impress them."

Ayano said, "They think I'm dating a guy."

Kyoko asked, "What?"

Ayano asked, "Can you cross dress?"

Kyoko shook her head and said, "You need to let your parents know your real feelings. Plus in every TV episode where a character tries to go in disguise it always fails in the climax."

Ayano responded, "Okay, but I'm really nervous. What if they kick me out, because of our relationship."

Kyoko held Ayano's hand and said, "That probably won't happen and if it did my parents and I would let you move in with us." Ayano smiled.

After twenty minutes of walking and hand holding Ayano and Kyoko arrived at Ayano's house. Ayano walked in while feeling super nervous.

Mr. Sugiura was confused to see a woman instead of a man so he said, "I asked you to bring your boyfriend, not a friend."

Ayano was super scared about how to explain the situation to her parents. There was an awkward moment of silence. Ayano tried to speak, but her mouth couldn't get the words out. Kyoko could tell that Ayano was embarrassed to speak so she decided to speak up for her. Kyoko smiled and said, "I'm the one Ayano's dating."

Mrs. Sugiura didn't have a very surprised reaction to the news. She had never heard her daughter talk about guys' looks before and deep down she knew that Ayano had always had an interest in Kyoko. Mr. Sugiura was very surprised. He sat in silence while thinking about what kind of a reaction he should have.

Mrs. Sugiura asked, "Aren't you Toshino Kyoko?"

Kyoko asked, "Has Ayano ever mentioned me?"

Mrs. Sugiura answered, "Ayano used to talk about how big of a rival you were to her, but I noticed that she had a lot of nice things to say about you too. For the past few years she's barely mentioned you."

Ayano blushed and said, "I've been too embarrassed to talk about Kyoko. I usually try to play things safe and never take any risks. Kyoko's always been such a risk taker. She seemed like the opposite of the type of person that I would want to hangout with. She was goofy, lazy, and really eccentric. However she's also the most charming, helpful, beautiful, and fun person that I've ever met.

Kyoko responded, "Ayano's a lot different from me. She loved rules and school. She even studied all the time." Kyoko pointed to Mr. and Mrs. Sugiura's parents and said, "You two are guilty of having a brilliant, hard working daughter. Is that something to respect or be ashamed about?"

Mr. Sugiura sternly asked, "Why would it be something to be ashamed about?"

Mrs. Sugiura responded, "She was joking around."

Mr. Sugiura whispered, "What an immature sense of humor."

Mr. Sugiura asked, "Is anybody going to address the elephant in the room?"

Kyoko handed Mr. Sugiura a drawing of an elephant and said, "I hope that you like the drawing."

Ayano said, "The truth is that I've always liked Kyoko. I felt I was too inferior and nervous to ever be with her so I acted as her rival so I could get her attention. She viewed me as a friend, not a rival and I was embarrassed but incredibly grateful."

Kyoko replied, "After we celebrated the end of high school I started to realize that I had grown to have a crush on her. Ever since then I've been in paradise."

Ayano blushed and said, "Come on. Being with me is hardly anything worthy of calling paradise."

Kyoko smiled and responded, "It's been magical."

Ayano walked closer to her parents and said, "I have a favor to ask Dad and Mom."

Mr. Sugiura asked, "What is it?"

Ayano answered, "Please don't hate me."

Mrs. Sugiura responded, "We would never hate you."

Mr. Sugiura said, "It would be impossible to make us stop loving you."

Ayano responded, "I was worried that you wouldn't approve of me dating someone of the same gender."

Mrs. Sugiura replied, "It's not a problem at all."

Mr. Sugiura said, "I admit to not expecting this. You used to let your lack of self-trust stop you from taking risks. However I'm proud of you for becoming braver and following your heart."

Ayano said, "Kyoko deserves all of the credit. She inspired me to be honest about how to feel and showed me how happy and fun life can be." Kyoko blew kisses at Ayano. Ayano nervously asked, "Am I allowed to keep dating Kyoko?"

Mrs. Sugiura said, "Of course you can."

Ayano responded, "Thank you Mom and Dad."

Mrs. Sugiura said, "I think Ayano's admitted enough for one day."

Mr. Sugiura replied, "You are excused."

Ayano responded, "Thank you."

Mrs. Sugiura whispered to Ayano, "I'm glad you finally admitted it."

Ayano whispered, "You knew I had a crush on Kyoko this whole time?"

Mrs. Sugiura answered, "I found drawings you made of Kyoko with paper hearts drawn on. I knew you'd be embarrassed if I brought it up so I kept silent about it. I'm glad you're not embarrassed anymore."

Kyoko asked, "Can I see those drawings someday?"

Ayano blushed angrily while saying, "You weren't supposed to be listening."

Kyoko responded, "I'm sure that you're a better artist than Chinatsu."

A few minutes later Ayano and Kyoko started walking to the anime store while holding hands. Ayano said, "You were right about me needing to admit my feelings. You're so helpful and wonderful. This has been a much better day than I was expecting."

Kyoko responded, "I'm proud of you for telling your parents about us. You don't need to be afraid. I'm going to love you forever."

Ayano said, "My heart always beats with excited blushing when I'm with you."

Kyoko looked up at the sky and said, "I wanna write that we're in love in the clouds so everyone can know."

Ayano responded, "That might be too much."

Kyoko laughed while saying, "Fair enough."

Several tears of happiness came from Ayano's eyes. She would usually be embarrassed by that, but she now felt proud and excited to be with Kyoko. Ayano stared at Kyoko.

Kyoko jokingly asked, "Are you admiring my beauty?"

Ayano answered, "I actually am." She kissed Kyoko.

Kyoko started doing a victory dance. She said, "I'm sorry, but I'm really happy about this day."

Ayano asked, "May I have this dance?" Ayano and Kyoko started dancing on a safe part of the sidewalk. A few people walked by and were weirded out, but Ayano and Kyoko could care less. They were having a magical day and they looked forward to their splendid future together.
