Title: Briefings

Summary: Case briefings with Dr. Goodman had been long and boring, briefings with Cam were…different.

A/N: This is femslash, I respect some people don't like girl/girl pairings, so I'm giving you fair warning now, oh an if the bigot who reviewed my last Cam/Brennan fic is reading this I'll make it a little clearer this time: FEMSLASH. Don't read if you don't like it or you're conceited enough to think you speak for everyone who uses this site (not web page) when it comes to this pairing.

"Doctor Brennan?" Cam Saroyan interrupts her as she's talking to Angela and Zach about the latest case they're working on for Booth. "Can you come by my office later this evening? We need to have a briefing about how the case is going."

"Sure." Her reply is short and snappy. She doesn't appreciate being ordered to jump through hoops while she's trying to work.

"Man, another briefing?" Angela asked as soon as the pathologist was out of earshot. "That's the third this week. She sure likes to be efficient."

"Mhm." Temperance agreed, already immersed in the case again like there'd been no interruption.

After the rest of the team has gone home and the lab slowly empties, Brennan takes the notes for the latest case and heads to Dr. Saroyan's office. She knocks once and enters the dimly lit room. The blinds are shut and the only light in the room comes from a desk lamp. She sets the case file down on the woman's desk and waits patiently as she scans it over. "Good." She mutters and lets the file drop back on to the desk. "Time for a drink."

Temperance Brennan had always hated briefings with Dr. Goodman. Sitting in his office for hours on end, justifying ever little thing she was doing. She'd expected them to be worse with Saroyan. And they had been; until they'd started having a drink in their late night briefings. One drink gradually turned to three or four over the first few weeks of meetings and sharp tongues had turned loose.

During their working day their relationship remained the same, they were still cold and distant with each other, but in the weekly briefings, which had turned to almost daily, they grew closer.

She takes out the whiskey from her bottom drawer and pulls Brennan over to the couch in the corner of the office. "So, how was your day?" Before Cam, she would never talk to anyone about how her day was. Before Cam she wouldn't be sitting in the lab at night, ignoring her work and sitting tucked up on a couch with her boss.

"Long." Temperance sighs.

"Mine too." Cam rolls her eyes. "I've been waiting all day for this." She pours out their first shots and downs hers before she even puts the bottle down. Temperance drinks her own, the hot liquor burning her throat. She isn't a drinker, but Cam is a bad influence on her.

"So are you actually going home tonight? Or just crashing on your couch again?" Temperance blushes and shrugs. They both know she plans on staying to work.

"Oh, by the way I'm having the couch in your office removed."

"What?" Temperance shot up. "You can't. I-" She stops as Cam starts giggling. She's too easy to tease.

"It'll be good for you." The other woman insists as she pours them both a double.

"To get me to go home?"

"No." Their shots are gone in seconds. "You'll have to crash on my couch instead." Saroyan grins as she leans in to her colleague and steals a kiss. Yes, Cam Saroyan is a bad influence on Temperance Brennan.
