Disclaimer: I don't own Alice in Wonderland. It's as simple as that.
A/N: Yes, I know, I should be finishing my other fics, not writing a one-shot. Yeah, well, I need a writer's block pick-me-up.

Quite a Shame

People don't always realize that if Wonderland were to change for the worse, it wouldn't become "dark" or "evil". How that thought even occurred in the first place still remains unanswered to me. No, if Wonderland were to change, it would change like it is now.
It has been happening for quite awhile now. I remember when it first started. The realization was when I came across the White Rabbit. He was still late (I think time was angry at him too…) and looking for his pocket watch when his voice suddenly left him! We had all believed that it was laryngitis, or some other malady, but he only kept getting worse after that. Soon enough he disappeared all together. In his place was a plain white rabbit, not the White Rabbit we all knew. He had no waistcoat or pocket watch that was two days slow. No, just a plain ordinary rabbit.
Not long after my good friend, the March Hare, became a simple rabbit. He didn't want anymore tea or cakes, not many plain rabbits do. It makes me wonder if Wonderland has something against rabbits, they were the first to change. Everyone was changing. Bill the Lizard, the Dormouse, and even the ever smiling Cheshire Cat. His grin was gone.
Listen to me! Even I am no longer making puns or telling riddles. I sound dreadfully sane. Soon, I will be a boring old man, not even able to drink my unbirthday tea. Normal people don't even have unbirthdays. Soon, I will no longer be the Mad Hatter. I'll just be the Hatter. It's quite a shame, really.
