Chapter 1: Veldora the Storm Dragon

Being transported through dimensions is the soul of a woman recently killed. Fortunately for her, a second chance awaits her.

Where am I? I can't feel my body. I can't smell, I can't see. What happened? Think, think! What's the last thing you remember? I was...I was stabbed. I must be unconscious and at the hospital. Maybe, I'm in a coma? Is this what being in a coma feels like? No...I remember dying.

…..

Wait! I feel something! My eyes, I don't have eyes. But I can see? This is such a strange feeling. I can sense something. Plants? Yes, shadows in the shape of flowers. And rocks? I think, I think I'm in a cave. If I can just...move. I feel so slushy. What happened to my body? I moved! I moved forward! I can move! There, now go left, now go right, and now go back! Yes! I think I'm a blob? No, I'm a slime? Wow...I've been reincarnated as a slime.

90 days have now past, and the newly reincarnated slime has so far discovered the Great Sage system dwelling within her new body. With nothing else to do, her exploration of the unknown cave continues.

All right, let me just review my situation in a calm and orderly manner. I haven't had much to do, except eat these flowers. They're all over the place! The first time, a flower just disintegrated inside my slimy body, and a voice in my head started analyzing it. Boy, was I surprised. Apparently, its name is Great Sage. I think it's some sort of built-in AI. Whatever it is, I'm so grateful it's here. It can analyze the Hipotoke flowers I ate and turn them into potions. It's my unique skill: Predator. So skills, huh, am I in a video game? No, that's ridiculous! Though, I don't know how much more ridiculous than being reincarnated as a slime...hmmm...this is so confusing. Ah well, I'll just continue to eat these flowers.

So I keep on walking, no slimying(?) around, munching on these flowers out of pure boredom. I thought I'd magically gain the skill to taste stuff if I eat enough, but Great Sage quickly shot that theory down. I honestly can't describe how disheartening it is knowing I may never savor delicious food again.

As I continue exploring, I find my path blocked by a body of water as big as a lake. I'll just have to hope that'll I'll float, so leap of faith here goes!

And...I'm sinking.

'Is this it? Is this how I'm going to die a second time? By drowning? Much less climatic than getting stabbed. Heck, can I even drown? Do I breathe?

….wait a minute

Alright, I don't seem to be dying...maybe I can use predator to eat all the water!'

I try to suck in as much water as possible, then Great Sage, my saviour, intervenes:

New Skill: Water Manipulation. Would you like to activate? Yes/No

'Yes! Yes! Oh cheese and crackers, yes!'

With my new abilities, I speedily surf above the water. It's incredible! I've never gone water skiing in my previous life, but I'm making up for it now.

'Now, If I can just figure out how to slow down. That ledge over there is getting awfully clo-'

WHAM!

I go flying off in some direction, down some cavern, and end up hitting some weird looking rocks before landing.

My first thought is, 'Great Sage, how it that I don't feel any pain?!'

Pain censors are non-existent. Skill must be acquired to active. However, approximately 10 percent damage has been taken. Would you like to use a Hipotoke potion to regain full health? YES/NO

'Yes, please!'

Just like that, I'm all healed up from damage I don't even feel. This body really is full of surprises.

Now, where exactly am - Holy Crap!

Right in front of me, is a huge, gleaming spherical barrier with a gigantic and powerful creature inside of it. If I could gulp, I would. Surely, I am shaking in terror.

He glared at me, and I swear I could feel a menacing cloud looming over him.

"HOW DARE YOU, LOWLY SLIME, APPROACH ME, THE GREAT STORM DRAGON VELDORA!"

His booming voice hits me directly in the face, by some miracle I don't go flying off again.

'Oh no, Oh no, OH NO. What do I do? What do I do? I can't even talk! Maybe I can just quietly slither away in the other direction. Yep, that's it nice and easy-'

"MONGREL! YOU THINK ME INCAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING YOUR SIMPLE MIND"

'You can understand me?!'

"THAT'S WHAT I JUST SAID, FOOL!"

'Thank goodness! I can communicate! Please, Mr. Dragon, can you tell me where I am?'

"I AM CALLED VELDORA, PATHETIC BEING. WE ARE IN A CAVE RESIDING IN THE GREAT FOREST OF JURA"

'Ah, I see...what are you doing here anyhow? And what's that giant bubble you're in?'

"I AM NOT SO DESPERATE AS TO CONVERSE WITH A SLIME!"

'Oh..I see. I'll just leave then-'

"NO WAIT! CAN- ahm *cough* ...Actually can you stay, stay a little while longer? I haven't had anyone to talk to in 300 years…"

I gasp, '300 years?! Why in the world would you be here that long?!'

"I was imprisoned here by a hero with peerless beauty. And just because I got a little angry at a town, can you believe that?"

'Um right, exactly how angry were you? I'm going to go ahead and assume you were destroying the place.'

"Nonsense! It was a just a bit on fire, that's all!"

'...'

"Alright, yes, I earned what I deserved. But honestly, it's already been three-hundred years and I'm quite lonely. My magic preserves won't last much longer, either."

'Well, I know it's not much Mr. Veldora, but I could be your friend', I said(thought), while trying to smile in whatever way a slime can.

"HA, IT IS BENEATH ME TO BEFRIEND A LOWLY SLIME!"

'...Well….fine then! I'm getting really tired of all this 'lowly slime' insults! I'm just gonna leave!'

"WAIT! Wait!"

I turn back around.

"I'm just not used to talking to someone after three centuries. I…" I think he's blushing. "I would like to be friends, yes. However, to rightfully establish our friendship, we must name each other."

'Oh, I already have a name. It's-'

"No, no! We must give the names ourselves. Names hold power in this world. So, what name will you give me?"

Oh geez, I've never been good at coming up with names. Let's see, he's a storm dragon. So I think something that means storm would go best. Hm…..

'Oo! I know! How about Tempest? Veldora Tempest!

A low rumbling spreads through the entire cavern, "HAHA! I LOVE IT! I am Veldora Tempest. And you are Rimuru Tempest! From today forward, we shall be brother and sister in name!"
