Grumpy Old Men and Bourbon

It did not surprise either of them when Fornell found his way to Gibbs basement after the case was resolved. Fornell had just found out that the wife he had once loved had cheated on him during their marriage. He was left wondering if any of his marriage had been real. Diane was his one and only love but he had not been hers.

"Bourbon's on the shelf," Gibbs told Fornell as he reached the last step.

"I'm gonna need it," Fornell uttered.

"She was cheating on me for most our marriage," Fornell cried as he poured himself a glass of bourbon, "And she only loved you," Fornell paused, he took a long gulp of bourbon. The amber liquid burnt his throat, "Why does everybody love you? You had four wives who loved you and I can't even have one."

"Don't know," Gibbs replied as he moved toward the workbench and poured himself another drink.

"I mean you're a grumpy old guy who is married to his work," Fornell cried as he took another gulp of bourbon. It burnt the second time around as well.

"Pot, kettle, black" Gibbs uttered using just the essential words of the idiom to make his point.

"Hey," Fornell moaned, "I am not an old grump," Gibbs did not respond not wanting to kick Fornell while he was down.

"Us old grumps got to stick together," Gibbs finally said as he took the bourbon off Fornell.

"Hey," Fornell cried, upset over both the insult and the removal of liquor.

"You can't drive if you keep drinking," Gibbs told his friend.

"I wasn't going to risk it," Fornell replied.

"So it's that," Gibbs responded, pouring himself a drink.

"What is that?" Fornell asked, putting emphasis on that. "Two grumpy old men and a bottle of bourbon,"
