"Hey mom, dad. Can I talk to you for a minute?" Christopher Kent asked his parents. He stood in the doorway of their bedroom. "Of course sweetie" Lois said. Chris walked in and sat down on the bed. "What is it son?" Clark asked. Chris sighed and ran a hand through his brown hair. Lois thought he was as handsome as Clark, even though they didn't share the same dna. She loved her boys. They kept her sane when it felt like the world was against her.
"So I was thinking and don't take this the wrong way. I love being here. I love Jon and Conner and you both have been the best parents anyone could ever ask for." Chris started but then hesitated. Lois wasn't sure she was going to like where this was going. Clark sat up straighter. "Listen, you can always talk to us. You can tell us anything." He said, trying to make his son feel more comfortable. "I think I wanna leave. I wanna go somewhere new and make a new name for myself." Chris told his parents. They didn't look disappointed but they were a little confused.
"You want to leave us again?" Lois asked, pain clear in her voice. Chris felt bad. He didn't want to hurt his beloved parents. They meant the world to him. If it weren't for them, he wouldn't be where he is now. They had just got him back from the phantom zone. He could see a lot have changed but one thing that had never changed was the love his adopted parents had for him. He felt at home. He felt like he mattered and he never could repay them for everything they had done for him. He adored Jon and loved chatting with Conner. He loved how the three of them would just hang out playing video game or binge watching Netflix. He especially loved when all five of them were together. He loved how in love Clark and Lois was and watching them together made his heart melt. He hoped he could have something like that but he didn't know if he belonged here anymore. No matter how much his family made him feel welcomed and at home.
"I'll keep in contact. I just want to go to school and maybe get a job helping people. Maybe in the medical field or something else. I just think I need to look at my options."
It was a lot to take in. They didn't want Chris to leave them again so soon. "Are you sure about that?" Clark asked. "You always have a place here with us. What made you decide this?"
Chris glanced at his mom and if he didn't know any better, he would think she was close to crying. "I just want something different. I know I was a super hero once but maybe there's something else out there for me." He said. Clark shook his head. "Son, you can get back into it. I'll talk to the league and we'll see about getting you on the team. They'll love to have you."
Chris smiled. He was grateful that Clark was attempting to give him a place in the superhero community. "Thanks. I'll definitely keep that in mind but I think I need to live a normal life for a while. I never had that chance. Maybe it'll do me good meeting new people."
"We will support you no matter what you decide but i wish you wouldn't leave us. We just got you back." Lois said. Chris toke her hand. "I know mom but you should know that without you and dad, I wouldn't have ever been a hero in the first place. I can't express how wonderful you two have been as parents and if I do leave, you can always call me anytime you want."
"So why don't you think about it. Don't make such a fast decision." Clark said. Chris nodded. "Yeah ok. I just wanted to let you guys know." Lois embraces Chris, feeling like she might loose him yet again. Clark toke a good look at his son and felt his heart burst with pride. He was such a wonderful son. He wanted more then anything to make his parents proud and he did just that. He wasn't a little boy anymore. He was a young man who wanted to live life and have experiences and Clark wanted him to have a good life. Christopher deserves nothing less.
"You'll always be a hero to us. No matter what you decide." Clark said. Lois agreed and the three shared a hug. Chris never felt more safe and secure. Maybe he would stay after all.
