25 Days of Rory
I own nothing, except Toni.
This is beta-ed by Blair (MarlyCook) and she is also helping me write it. Couldn't do it without her. She's great.
Blair: Most, if not all, of the credit goes to Bee. This was a wonderful and adorable idea and I enjoy working with her. This chapter was all her.
I've been tapping my fingers against this keyboard for ten minutes, staring at Microsoft Word's blank document in front of me. This is going to be my online journal for the next month and I'm sure this first entry will end up the Prologue in my next novel. My novel that will be purely on my experience in the ups and downs of (a fake) love.
Fake, you ask? Yes. Fake. Fake, because I have been challenged by my editor and closest friends to make a girl fall in love with me in twenty- five days. It sounds a bit like the Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson's box office hit, right? That's because my roommate is a nineteen-year-old girl and it was her idea. My editor fell in love with it (and her). But, we won't go into that.
The horrible part, besides my gnawing conscience, is the fact that I don't choose the girl. I get absolutely no say and my only job is to charm her into my arms and then after the twenty-five days is up … I guess my job is to dump her.
The only problem with this is the thought that I might actually fall in love with the girl. So along with making her fall in love with me, I have to have enough control to focus on my book and not fall in love with her. Simple enough, right?
Right.
So this journal will be my mind, soul, and heart throughout this month. Hopefully, I will be as successful with this book as I was with my last two. And maybe, just maybe, I'll be lucky enough to get out of this scotch-free.
Until I meet this girl, I will have to say goodbye. Wish me luck and don't let my heart get ahead of my mind, will ya?
- Jess Mariano
"You done?" Toni called to him, walking down the stairs clad in her short baby tee and boy underwear from American Eagle (which she says she uses so she doesn't get "wedgies").
Toni was a young model and began that career a year ago, right before her high school graduation. She's not shy or embarrassed about her body and she will walk in front of just about anyone in nothing, but a bra and panties.
"Yeah," Jess smirked and looked up at her. He sighed and shook his head. "As soon as you put pants on."
"Oh!" Toni hit her head, laughing. "I forgot. Sorry Jessy!"
"Uh huh," he nodded, waiting on her to get dressed.
Jess' best friend since diapers was Benny Martin. When Benny was twenty years old, his parents were killed in a car accident. So Benny was left to be Toni's guardian. Toni was his twelve-year-old sister and very hard to handle.
Since he believed he couldn't care for her and his own place, he moved in with Jess. Together, the two boys raised her. When Toni was seventeen, Benny left for the Peace Corp. This left Jess in charge of the teenage girl who was just finishing up high school.
Then she became an adult and Jess was more of a roommate than a guardian.
She bounced back down the stairs and grinned at him. "Ice cream?"
Jess nodded and got up to grab his jacket. "Ice cream it is."
He closed his laptop and grabbed his keys, walking out of his apartment.
