Hawaii Five-O belongs to CBS. I just like to play in the Five-O universe! Just a short offering in honor of the day!

FRIDAY THE THIRTEENTH, SQUARED

"I don't think it's a good idea, Boss," Kono said. "Ya know, giving the Kaikaina the day off today. You know what day it is."

Steve looked up from the report he was studying. "It's Friday, Kono. I promised Danno the day off to judge that surf meet on the North Shore. He's been looking forward to it."

"But Boss," the big Hawaiian continued, "It's not just the day; it's the date!"

It was McGarrett's turn to look confused. "The thirteenth. Friday the . . . thirteenth." His voice slowed as the significance of the date registered. "Are you superstitious?"

Kono thought he'd better not answer that one. Instead, he countered with a question of his own. "You remember what happened the last time this date rolled around? We had all kinds of pilikia. You got that flat and went off the road. Left Danny with a busted arm. Chin caught a whopper of a cold when those kids turned a hose on him. And someone stole my lunch right outta my car! And you're letting the Kaikaina go to a surf meet! Ya know he won't be able to pass up those big waves. Bad idea, Boss!"

Steve nodded. He remembered that last Friday the Thirteenth. In reality, he'd rather forget it. What's more, he realized how tempting those big waves would be to his young second-in-command. Maybe he'd better remind Danno of his promise to watch the big wave surfing. He didn't want to visit his friend in the hospital, at least, not today—or any day! He wasn't superstitious, not really, but he was Irish . . . He checked the time. Maybe he could catch Danno before the younger officer left for the North Shore.

He didn't need to make the call. Just as he picked up the phone, a disgruntled Danny Williams walked into the office. Steve breathed a quiet sigh of relief as he questioned "Something wrong, Danno?"

"Yeah," the young detective grumbled. "It's not my day! Someone popped the hood and stole the battery out of my Mustang. Friday the Thirteenth!"
