Prologue

Your hair, your voice, your lips, they're all mine

For when scarlet drops taint your innocent smile

"What are you doing? Still up here at this time of the night?" Kaname suddenly popped in from behind as Yuuki was staring at the fountain.

She turned to face him, and felt the invisible barrier between them. So close yet so far. He saved her that one snowy night, he protected her from everything else that followed, he was always there. He was behind the huge gates of the night class dormitory, but he was always there.

"I have to make sure there aren't any day class students camping on the grounds. Their tactics get really complex every time…" Yuuki said, which was partially true. The other reason was that, she wanted to ask him something.

"Kaname senpai?"

"Hmm?" Kaname smiled, and saw the girls he saved a long time ago. Her smile, his only joy.

"How do you become a vampire?"

Yuuki putting it so bluntly surprised Kaname, but not entirely. Sooner or later, he thought, Yuuki will eventually ask these kind of questions.

"Well, you have to be bitten by a vampire…of course."

"And not just by any other vampire…you have to be bitten by a pureblood…by someone like me." He added.

Yuuki's expression darkened and she involuntarily took a step back. "Why do you ask?"

"Nothing…"

And Kaname knew better than believe that. He knows Yuuki well enough to know that "nothing" really means "something". And Yuuki knows that he knows it too.

"Actually, I was worried that…that I can't be with Kaname senpai since I will wither away and…and die"

Yuuki knows Kaname didn't like the sound of that, as the expression on his face changed abruptly to a seemingly loathing one. Yuuki again, involuntarily took a step. But Kaname pulled her into his arms and ran his fingers through her hair gently.

"Don't say things like that. Yuuki will not die as long as I'm here"

"But Kaname senpai, that's how it really is for me. I could be killed with a bullet right now, or time will take me away…if I'm not going to be a vampire…if I'll stay like this… I can't-"

He let go of her, seeing where all of this is going.

"You want to become a vampire?"

Yuuki looked down at the ground, noticing the black pebbles that surrounded the fountain. "No…well, yes…I don't know!" Yuuki felt confused and turned away. She doesn't know what to do. This would be very hard, not just for her but for everyone close to her as well…especially for Zero.

"Okay…" he said with a sigh, and calmly ran his fingers through his hair.

"What?" she asked. Kaname held her face gently, then moved his finger to trace a line from her lips to her neck.

"I will turn you to a vampire, you shall join me…but not now, soon…" he said, and smiled at her again.

"And when is that?" she asked, but something was making her feel sleepy. Yuuki tried to open her eyes, he was using his powers on her to make her sleep. "You will know when that time comes, but for now…enjoy the breathe of life and sleep, my princess".
