Kise could sometimes be very simple-minded. Oh, Yukio knew the sly bastard hidden somewhere beneath–and hadn't he become too acquainted with that–but for the most part, the blond was tired enough from the front he had to put up as a celebrity that he preferred to wear his heart on his sleeve. Whether he was sulking and whining about people bullying him, or brightening in front of good food and people he wanted to see, Kise was almost always himself. So when those mouth and sun-gold eyes declared that this Miracle truly loved his team, Yukio believed him in a heartbeat.
Even so, the third-year was painfully aware, of how much more vivid the small forward seemed, playing opposite his old teammates and Kagami. No one at Kaijou could make him this alive. It wasn't something anyone could help, so it never cropped up in the billion irritations he vented on the ditz. Yukio refused to punish a teammate for something he could not be, and if his own jaw sometimes tightened while remembering Kise's faraway glances before their first match against Seirin, then so be it. Just another minor discomfort he had to carry.
But his sister had once commented, that Yukio's straightforward thinking was also the root of his social awkwardness. So when he finally caught up due to a certain airhead grabbing his wrist with a soft, nervous grin, like this was the first time the blond had ever initiated instead of receiving (Oh hell, why him?! He wasn't ready and was this what Kise's ex-teammates always saw on court wait this wasn't even the time to be jealous), well.
Yukio couldn't exactly be blamed, could he?
