Although the wind and rain were not quite enough to be fully considered a storm, they were enough to muddle and wash away scents. Street lamps, already dimmed because of the dreariness of the weather, threatened to gutter out as a lone figure passed through the empty early morning streets of Magnolia. Flickering light would have made it almost impossible for normal humans to see the finer features of the figure, but its height and breadth of shoulder clearly marked it as male. If anyone had been on the street, that person would have been able to see the figure's height was impressive and that he carried his lean form with confidence or that his great swath of crimson hair, unbound, floated eerily in the wind. Perhaps, though, anyone who saw him would have noticed the tail that swept evenly with his stride.
However, since no one was wandering the streets early on a rainy morning, the figure went unnoticed as he made his way expertly through the city, passing the hospital, the park, and walking along the edge of the canal as if Magnolia was and had always been his home. With no resounding footsteps, he traversed the streets until he stood in front of the Fairy Tail guildhall.
There was no light in the windows, and the gate was shut with a heavy lock, but he already knew this. In fact, he'd simply come to scout things out. He'd been wandering alone for far too long, and had heard of the guild after its performance in the Grand Magic Games. He'd seen them fight and their spirit, and he wanted it for his own. Bright slit-pupiled eyes turned up in anticipatory glee as he ran a clawed finger tip along a stave in the gate. He could begin his work soon. He'd waited centuries for the right ones, and now they were well within his grasp. A throaty chuckle passed along prominent canines and full lips as he withdrew his hand. Yes, this guild was exactly what he wanted, and he would have it. With a snap of his fingers, a small whirlwind shot through with dust and leaves sprang to life around him and, as quickly as he had come, he vanished with the wind.
