It's not quite midnight yet when Brittany sneaks out of the bedroom, leaving a sleeping Sam behind. There's still six minutes until the Mayans said the world was going to end. As Brittany clutches her phone, she finds that there's only one thing on her mind.

"Hey, Britt." The voice on the other line sounds a little groggy. Maybe a little bit weary, too.

"Hi. Did I wake you? I'm sorry." She's sitting on the floor in the hall just outside the room, cross-legged with her back against the wall.

"No, you didn't. I'm just tired and trying to avoid this essay I have to write. What's up?"

"I just… wanted to talk to you. You heard about the apocalypse, right? I guess I couldn't go to sleep without talking to you first." She glances real fast at the clock on her phone. 11:57pm. She rushes her next words. "I just wanted to tell you how happy you've made my life. And how awesome of a girlfr… a best friend you've always been." The last part comes out watery. "The very best." She takes a steadying breath.

There's a bit of a pause on the other end before a hesitant question. "Britt… you know that apocalypse stuff is all crap, right? It's not real."

This time there's a sniffle as her facade crumbles. She hangs her head against her free hand, letting the tears fall into her lap. "Yeah, I know. It's just… lately it's felt kinda like maybe the world is ending, you know? Like it doesn't have to go out in a big ball of fire and crazy explosions like you see in movies. Instead, it could totally just slip through your fingers because you couldn't hold on tight enough; weren't good enough. And you're just sitting there confused because you don't know how this happened or why."

The voice on the other end starts sniffling too. "I know what you mean. But…" She can almost see the way Santana would give her a little half shrug as she answers. "I'm still here. And you are too. And an amazing, smart, and completely awesome girl once told me that because of that, anything's possible. So…" Brittany can picture Santana's resolve strengthening with her intake of breath. "If there's one thing I believe in, it's that there's no way in hell any apocalypse could get in the way of that."

Brittany breaths out a laugh before answering. "Yeah, I think you're right. We would totally kick an apocalypse's ass."

Santana returns the laugh. "Definitely."

Brittany wipes the remaining tears from her eyes. "Good luck on your paper. I'm sure it'll be totally awesome. Words are kinda your thing."

"Thanks, Britt. Say hi to all the losers in Glee Club for me, okay?"

"Okay." There's a pause before she reluctantly continues. "Goodnight, Santana."

"Goodnight, Britt Britt."

She stays sitting against the wall for a moment before deciding to get up, feeling a little lighter than when she sat down. A little bit more alive, too. Before she quietly reenters the bedroom she sneaks another glance at the clock.

12:04am. The world hadn't ended yet. Brittany thinks that means something.
