Disclaimer: I don't own anything other than my OC...yup that's bout it. I'm poor.

A lone woman ran through the streets of New York, the wind whistling in her ears, clutching a bundle to her chest. It was the dead of the night and her feet made the only noise that could be heard in the distance. She stopped directly next to an abandoned alley that had a few trash cans in it. Tears pricked at the corner of her eyes and with a heavy heart, she placed the bundle next to the cans.

''I'm sorry,'' she whispered before running off leaving the bundle screaming and crying in protest.

Sniffing the air for any incoming humans, Hamato Yoshi, now mutated into the human hybrid, Splinter, made his way carefully through the alleys searching the cans for any signs of food. He knew he had to hurry, he had let his turtle tots back at the lair as he went on his midnight excursion for food. He suddenly stopped in the middle of any alley, his ears picking up a few faint sounds in the distance. Being a mutant certainly had its advantages. He ran swiftly towards the noise, only to find out that it was a young baby girl no older than a few months, abandoned. He felt pity for the young child. Hs heart ached a he remembered his own daughter and thought who would be so cruel to abandon this gem of a child. She was beautiful with brown hair and her amber eyes. He cradled her in his arms. He couldn't leave her behind. His first thought was an orphanage but he doubted if she would be safe there. The idea of keeping her for himself flitted across his mind. The young girl was looking at him with a mixture of curiosity and excitement, experimenting with his whiskers not the least bit terrified. He smiled at her and decided to keep her. Deciding he had enough food for a couple of days, he took her home and saw his turtle tots wide awake. He placed the oung girl between them an observed their reactions. They were curious and looked elated, showing no signs of disgust or anger. Before he knew it, they were all crawling and playing together. The scene warmed his heart, he felt blessed to have such an amazing family.

Splinter inhaled, closing his eyes, doing his best to focus and meditate but was interrupted by the young tots climbing on to him and pulling his whiskers. He sighed, this was going to be difficult.

''It appears meditation is out of the question for now''

He felt a small turtle crawling onto his lap and smiled when he saw him offering a small creation of his.

''Thank you, young turtle''

He stroked his whiskers, deep in thought

''Hmmm...I suppose you all need proper names now''

He got up and walked towards the small cart that was filled with the few possessions he now owned. He picked up a book labelled 'History of Renaissance of Art'

''When I was a child, I wanted to be an artist. So it seems appropriate to name you after the masters of my favourite period of art, the Renaissance. Perhaps one day you will grow up to be something great''

The turtles and the young girl all crowded around the book as if picking their names for themselves.

''I will name you Donatello, Michaelangelo, Vasari, Raphael and Leonardo.'' All of the them crowded around each other in excitement, laughing in delight.

''I have a gift for each of you as we continue our journey'' He glanced at the weapons hanging on the wall. ''Although these are mostly from your own choosing, it is clear to me now. They chose you.''

He handed the katana to Leonardo. ''The katana, a royal samurai weapon, for those with courage and keen skill.'' He next picked the twin sais, handing them to Raphael. ''The sai, for a fierce and fearless warrior who will always fight the hardest for his family.'' He picked the bo staff and handed it to Donatello. ''The bo staff, for a thoughtful soul and a peaceful heart.'' He then held out the odachi sword to Vasari. ''The odachi, for a determined fighter with strong will and deep compassion''. And last of all, he held out the nunchaku to his youngest child, Michaelangelo. ''The nunchaku because...uh, well, they are perfect for you.''

All of his children stood up and he addressed them passion and love lacing his tone. ''My children. It is time for your next level for to begin. Are you ready?''

The five of them leapt into action eager to prove themselves, ready for action.

''May I come in, Sensei?''

Splinter broke out of his meditation and looked towards the door to see Vasari standing at the door with an unsure look on her face.

''Yes my daughter, what is it that troubles you?''

Vasari entered and kneeled respectfully in front of him. ''I hope you w-won't mind Sensei, I just wanted to-to ask you something.'' Vasari began.

''Go on''

''A-am I...uh, am I as important to j-just like the others?'' she asked rubbing the back of her neck clearly indicating that she was nervous about asking this particular question. Splinter gazed at her in surprise.

''What makes you think that, my daughter?''

Vasari looked at Splinter a bit of panic creeping into her features. ''No, it's j-just-''

''Have the others done anything to make you feel this way?''

''NO! Not at all. In fact I feel best when I'm around that...it's just that I'm human and all of you are mutants and...I mean all of you could treat me differently...'' her voice trailed off after that.

Splinter just looked at her with a loving smile on his face. ''My daughter, you are just as important to me as any of my other children. I think no less of you just for the simple fact that you are human and we are not. After all, you were the once who told me, its character that matters not appearance.''

Vasari looked at Splinter in wonder, any doubt erased from her mind. She got up and hugged her father tightly. 'Thank you Father.''

Splinter chuckled and wrapped his arms around her tightly. ''You're welcome, my child.''
