I stood there motionless watching jade looking at her father's gravestone. She asked me to come with her because she didn't know of she had the strength to tell her father everything she wanted to say when he was alive. She asked me to be there for her I stood their and in front of me stood hundreds of silence was calming the night sky and the poor lighting of the graveyard made it seem like I was seeing in black and white, giving me the feeling that I had been there for an eternity. The wind blew softly from across the horizon storm clouds gathered moving slowly towards us. I could here jade quietly sobbing and as match as I wanted to comfort her I knew that she needed to say what she had come here to say.
I sighed and looked up; over the distant sound of traffic I could here the thunder, the silence ripped away by the loud claps above us. I took in a deep breath and could smell the freshly cut grass and the bitter smell of decomposing flowers, the combined with the scent of fresh roses was strangely calming, the smell of rain was heavy but I will stay here as long as she stays here.
I walked up to her placing a hand on her father's gravestone my hand absent minded tracing over the engraved name; I moved placing one hand on the ground and silently said my respects, the grass was wet and cold chilling my hand I stood up and placed a comforting hand on jades shoulder and asked her if she needed more time. She didn't say anything instead she shrugging her shoulders slightly. I told her I would be here for her for as long as she is here.
As I walked back to where I stood before, I could her begin to say her goodbyes and tell her father that she forgives him. A load clap of thunder makes her jump. She heard me chuckle at that and failed to suppress her smile. Even though her father had not been the best parent he was still her dad and she loved him. She felt relieved as most of her burdens had gone with him passing. The storm clouds high above again rumbled and although I didn't like her father because of his homophobic feelings towards her I did respect him because of his military service, it was strange to find such a selfish man so selfish that one person who did love him was only to be loved if conditions were met.
As the dark clouds above us rumbled again it began to rain . The rain combined with the cool night air made it extremely cold, colder then her father's heart had been, as jade turned around I could see all the stress gone from her face and she looked relieved, the tears falling as heavily as the rain, she felt calm and for the first time in a long time she looked happy she stopped in front of me and thanked me for being a good friend, saying that she owed me I told her that she didn't owe me anything, because I know that if our positions were reversed that she would have done the same thing for me.
I asked her if she was ready to go and she gave me a confirming nod. We turned around and began to walk out of the graveyard, jades sadness and anger left behind us. As the storm began to clear and the rain started to stop. The sun began to rise and our spirits lifted with it. As we left, jade didn't fell hatred for her father instead she felt love for him for the first time in a very long time. I knew this wouldn't be the end of her problems but I knew she would be able to stand up to what ever the world threw at her because despite the rimes she sees no end to her pain I know she is much stronger than her father made her believe
