It was a beautiful spring day, and Harry was busy wiping the counter when there was a jingle, signaling someone new was entering the coffee shop. He didn't look up from his task, though, and only began paying attention when Ginny came over to him and playfully nudged him.
He looked at her with an arched eyebrow.
She smirked. "Tall, dark, and handsome is here again. Two times in one day. That must be some sort of record."
Harry felt himself blush as he looked over at a particular table; it was the table 'tall, dark, and handsome' always sat at. The corner table by the big window.
"Go over there," Ginny urged.
Harry looked down at the counter. "I have to finish this," he squeaked. And yes, it was a squeak, and the very idea that the sound came out of him horrified him.
Ginny laughed and grabbed the wet rag from his hands. "I'll finish it. Go see what your favorite customer wants to order."
Harry took a deep breath. "Okay. Here goes nothing." He took his order pad out of his apron and quickly made his was over to the table. "Hello, Severus. Two times in one day. I'm flattered." He grinned in a way Ginny always told him made him look adorkable.
Severus smirked. "Yes, I have a long night of grading chemistry exams, so I need a little bit of a caffeine fix to get me through it."
"Do you want a to-go tumbler with your usual?"
"I'm going to stay here for a while, so for now, just bring me my usual in a mug. And a slice of cinnamon crumb coffee cake."
He paused in writing it down. "Coffee cake? I never took you much for a sweets person."
"The sweet is for you. I was hoping if you can take a break, you'd sit with me and enjoy it?"
Harry looked over his shoulder at Ginny and pleaded with her silently because he knew she was not-so-stealthily eavesdropping. Ginny nodded frantically with wide eyes and an infectious smile. He turned back to Severus. "Coming right up."
As he got the coffee, black with only the tiniest bit of sugar, and the slice of coffee cake, Harry worked on controlling his breathing. It wouldn't do him any good to hyperventilate due to excitement.
He grabbed two forks before he walked back to the table. He placed the coffee in front of Severus and the cake in the center of the table. He handed Severus a fork as he sat down. "Share with me?" Harry asked.
Severus looked at him with smoldering eyes. "As you wish."
They looked at each other as they each took turns taking pieces of cake.
"So, out of curiosity, are you ever going to ask me out on a date?" Harry usually wasn't one to be bold when it came to romantic relationships; in fact, he was usually petrified of being rejected so he never made the first move, but he was tired of waiting for Severus to make that move, and he didn't want to lose his chance with the older man.
"Are you sure you want to go out with a boring and dour chemistry professor?"
Harry stared into obsidian eyes. "More than anything," he admitted truthfully.
"How about Friday night? After your shift."
Harry grinned as his heart raced. "I can't wait."
