Phil was preparing to go to bed, he had poured himself a large glass of water and was now going to his bedroom. Before he got to his own room, he stopped in front of Dan's room, as he thought he probably should say goodnight to him. Something seemed odd though, as he listened in front of his friends door- it was silent; there was no sound of clicking or typing or even music, as he knew Dan to be the type of person who stayed on the internet until the wee hours of the morning.
He lightly knocked on the door with his free hand.
"Dan?" he called softly, waiting to hear a reponse.
Phil theorised that he may have called it an early night, but even that didn't seem plausible, as he could see through the crack of the door that his light was still on.
When Phil got no response, he carefully opened the door and stepped inside.
He looked around the room and his eyes fixated on a dark firgure in the bed, face down on a pilow.
"Dan..." he sighed. "...Are you okay?"
No response, as figured. It was clear that his friend had been questioning existence again and was now dealing with it in the only way he could.
Phil walked to the side of his bed, eyeing his friend, hoping to see any attempt at moving of any kind.
"You know you don't have to go through these alone." he stated. "I'm always here. You can come talk to me about it."
Still no response- he may as well have been talking to a brick wall. Phil knew it would be most likely futile, but he wanted to help his friend because he didn't very much like seeing him like this.
Then he set his water down, before climbing onto the bed next to his friend, sitting on his knees.
"Dan?" he whispered, worried about over-stepping boundaries.
He slowly lowered his body onto the bed, lying himelf down next to Dan, before he moved closer to his form, whilst extending his arms and wrapping them as best as he could around Dan's back. Phil's head was very close to Dan's; Phil guaranteed that his breath was dampening his cheek.
"You don't have to go through this alone, Dan." he repeated, hoping that Dan wasn't uncomfortable by his sudden embrace.
They lay there for a while and Phil started to rub circles into his back, trying anything he could think of to make his friend feel better.
"Dan-" Suddenly, Dan moved and hugged him back, tightly and Phil felt him bury his head into his shoulder.
He was quite taken back by this for a moment, before he hesitantly returned the gesture. He once again began to rub circles into his back for a bit.
Then he felt Dan shudder slightly and he heard soft sobs muffled by his pjama top. His expression grew sympathetic and he placed a hand on the back of Dan's head, stroking the hair lightly.
"It's alright, Dan.. I've got you." he whispered, quietly hushing him.
Dan didn't let go of him for most of the night, but that was okay, because Phil was just happy in the fact that, in the morning, his friend felt much better.
