Lost In My Embers

I sat alone, the mist of the dawn expanding its reach before my soft amber eyes. The meandering glens of my land reached to the sun. Everywhere there was life; morning song birds, blossoming wildlife and a sun kissed sky. Mornings are things I don't forget, as they are the awakening of my day.

Father attended a war meeting, though any wars were long over. As Fire Lord he does have those duties. I don't mind. I understand why he does these thing; for me, his people, and mother. Mother now sits with the spirits, as complications in my birth led her to such a fate.

A solemn wave off light made it's way across the heavens. Blue embers on a melon yellow sky, what a contrast. Fire has always fascinated me. I've never, not once though of fire as destruction, always as life. A tiny everlasting heart beat that hangs in the balance of life and death. I returned the flash with a small orange flicker of my own; slicing my pointer and middle fingers though the air, only to let out a dagger of a flame.

My glossy lips curled upward as a small Ember Fox crawled out of the blooming Rose-Berry bushes. A dainty thing she was. Four black burnt paws trotted along the ground; a little spring in each step, with a bushy tail swaying behind. Fur as white as fresh January snow covered her slender body and it fluttered along in the faint morning winds. Her eyes took the prize. Beauteous amber pools of autumn moon light reflecting off of my mother's brass jewelry as my mind lets me vaguely remember and compare the two. I am captivated by her beauty and feel myself crouch low in the cloud of mist. As if she has read my mind, the creature takes a long graceful leap in front of me; allowing me to get an even better glance. My eyes squinted, trying to take the Ember Fox in as best I could.

Her nose began to twitch like a jittery cockroach in a crowded room. My pale hand reached out to stroke it, but before I got the chance, she was gone; already proceeding down the lush green meadows. An emptiness hovered inside of me, as if trying to tell me to chase after her. I refused to move. My decision firm. Her memory lingered in my mind as I stood up to go walking once more.

Ahead of me, awaited a new day. Filled with wonder, excitement, fright, enjoyment, and possibly even a hint of fate. However, for now, I'm lost in my own little sea of embers.
