a/n: Hello all! So this is my idea for a Loki stand alone movie. It's based very (and I mean very) loosely upon a character from the Marvel comics. I don't own Karnilla, but I did make up her family and I'll go over that later. This story takes place between Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok except for the first few chapters, which are prequels. Please enjoy!

Karnilla and her brother Gunnar, took long steps to keep up with their father, the Norn King. Karnilla tugged on her father's sleeve. "Father, does King Odin have children that we can play with?"

"Yes, Karnilla." The King said. "King Odin has two sons. Thor, the eldest, is your age, Gunnar." Gunnar looked happy. "Karnilla, you are about a year older than King Odin's youngest, Loki." Karnilla nodded happily. She definitely did not want to sit and listen while the grown ups talked about boring things like alliances and politics.

The Norn King had traveled from his home world to discuss an alliance with Asgard. While the two kingdoms had never been enemies, they were also not allied. Now, the two kings wanted to work together, to bring peace to the nine realms. The royal family of three walked down the Bifrost bridge, escorted by Heimdall, the keeper of the Bifrost. When they reached the palace, King Odin, Queen Frigga and the two princes were there to greet them. "Greetings, King Erland!" Odin said, approaching his new ally. "Thank you for coming, my old friend."

"Thank you for inviting us, King Odin." Erland said. "Allow me to introduce my children. Gunnar, my eldest and my heir." Gunnar stepped forward, Erland's hand on his shoulder. "And my daughter, Karnilla." Karnilla took a bold step forward and nodded to King Odin.

"It's good to meet you, children." Odin said. "This is my wife, Frigga. And these are my sons, Thor and Loki." Odin gestured to the people behind him. "Now, come inside. Dinner is just about ready. Then we can discuss an alliance whilst the children get better acquainted." Odin lead the way to a large dining hall, where there was a large feast set out for them all. There were several others there, including a few children. Odin sat at the head of the table with Erland on his right and Frigga on his left. Thor sat next to Elrand and Gunnar next to him. There were four other children on that side of the table. Thor was good friends with them. Gunnar, who was not shy, clicked instantly with the others. Loki was on Frigga's other side and sitting next to him was Karnilla.

"Hello. I'm Karnilla." Karnilla said to Loki.

"Yes. I know." Loki said in reply.

Not wanting to offend him further, Karnilla said nothing more. She began to pick at her dinner plate. She felt jealous of Gunnar and how easily he made friends with those other children. She wanted to play with them, but she knew Gunnar would never let her. Gunnar said that she was too mean and played too many tricks. Karnilla couldn't help it. It was just too easy and too tempting. It wasn't her fault that she was destined to be the greatest sorceress in the nine realms. She was just born with a gift. Was it not her right to use it?

Over dinner, the adults discussed alliances. "I am willing to negotiate, Odin. I want this alliance as much as you do. We have a common enemy. Jotunheim slaughtered our warriors. I want revenge. Together, we could wipe out that race."

"That is out of the question, Erland." Odin dismissed. "We cannot kill off an entire race, no matter their crimes. We have come to a truce with the Jotun's, no matter how uneasy it is. You can do the same. I will help you gain that truce. That is how peace is won."

"Very well, very well." Erland sighed. "I accept your deal. And what of the future? Will this alliance continue?"

Odin eyed the children, who had finished their meals, and were impatiently waiting for permission to leave. "Children, you may go now. Go play in the courts. But stay out of trouble." He eyed his younger son in particular. They all stood and ran out the door to the courts to play some games. "Are you proposing what I think you are?"

Erland nodded. "In the future, our kingdoms will not only be allied, but united. That is, if you accept of course." Erland looked to Odin, who nodded at him to continue. "I propose that my daughter, Karnilla, be promised to one of your sons. Whichever you would prefer."

Odin considered this. "I think that could be agreeable. Yes. Karnilla will be promised to Thor. I am certain that he will be my heir."

"Darling, what about Sif?" Frigga gently reminded her husband.

Odin nodded. "Ah yes. Thank you, Frigga. I am afraid that Karnilla cannot be promised to Thor. We have already talked to the parents of another young girl about perhaps, someday promising her to Thor." Odin shook his head. "No matter. Karnilla can be promised to Loki. A fine match, I am sure."

"Yes. Good." Erland said with a nod. "Then it is done with." He held out his hand to Odin, who took it and shook it.

Meanwhile, outside in the courts, the children were getting ready to play a game. "No, Karnilla." Gunnar said. "You're not allowed to play. We don't play with tricksters."

Karnilla huffed. "I haven't played any tricks on you in a long time, Gunnar."

"It's been two days." Gunnar retorted.

"Well, that's a long time for me!" Karnilla argued. There was a laugh behind her. Karnilla turned to see who it was. It was Loki. She had drawn a laugh out of him. The thought made her smile a little.

"No, Karnilla." Gunnar insisted.

"Not you either, Loki." Thor said. "We still haven't forgotten about when you turned into a snake."

"I didn't want to play with you anyway." Loki said angrily.

"Fine." Karnilla stomped her foot. She turned around and walked away with Loki. When they had made it a few feet, Karnilla couldn't hold it in any longer. "You can shape shift?"

"Yes." Loki boasted. "I know all about sorcery."

"Well, can you do this?" Karnilla made a rock on the ground fly through the air.

"That's nothing." Loki said. He took a different rock and made it disappear.

"I can do this." Karnilla bragged and she pulled a flower out of no where. Well, not no where. From the gardens in her home, but it still looked cool.

"I can do that too." Loki said dismissively and he pulled a book from the library.

"I bet you can't do this." Karnilla made multiple copies of herself and they surrounded the two of them. There were five total.

"Teach me!" Loki shouted enviously.

"No way." The five Karnillas chanted as one.

"Your brother's right. You are mean." Loki said and he started to walk away.

The five Karnillas dissolved into one Karnilla. "Am not!"

"Are too." Loki taunted her back.

"If I'm mean, then so are you!" Karnilla said. "Thor says you play tricks, same as me."

Loki thought on that for a moment, before grinning mischievously. "I guess I am."

Karnilla grinned back. "Want to be friends?"

"I don't have any friends." Loki told her honestly.

Karnilla was a bit let down, but had an idea. "What if we weren't friends. Father said that he's not friend's with King Odin, but allies. Maybe we could be allies." Loki hesitated. "I'll even teach you how I make copies of myself." Karnilla offered.

"Deal." Loki said, and they shook hands.

From there, the friendship between the two pranksters only grew. True to her word, Karnilla taught Loki how to make copies of himself. In return, Loki showed her the secret passageways from Asgard to other realms. And they caused a little bit of mischief in those realms. Over the years, the two became the gossip of Asgard and the Norns. The two were good for one thing and one thing only, causing as much trouble as possible. Indeed, they were good at that. They played many tricks on their elder siblings and on the palace guards. It caused both Odin and Erland gray hairs, but they could not separate the two. Neither knew that they were promised to each other. The kings had not told them for fear it might drive them apart. Even if they were seperated for quite a stretch of time, they would go see each other anyways, using illusions and the secret passageways.

As they grew into teenagers, they only grew closer. One might even say, they fell in love. Though, neither would ever admit that. They were both determined to remain without feelings, except hatred. They both talked about how much they hated their families, especially their brothers. Both were extremely jealous because they wanted the throne for themselves.

One day, the two royal families were gathered again for dinner on Asgard. The meal was finished. Gunnar, Thor, Sif, Fandral, Volstagg, and Hogun walked off, talking loudly. Karnilla and Loki glared daggers at their backs. Then they both stood up and left in the opposite direction.

They walked in silence for some time. They watched the ocean beside them, the lights from the city reflecting off of it. Then, Karnilla could bear it no longer. She had to say something. There was a limit to just how long you could keep your feelings hidden. "Loki?" Loki hummed in reply. "Do you really feel nothing for anyone?"

Loki snorted. "How many times have we said that sentiment is useless? No, I don't feel anything for anyone. Except hatred." He was lying. Karnilla had some small sense that he was. But being the God of Lies, it could be hard to tell with him.

Karnilla eyed him carefully. "Not even for me?" She questioned quietly.

Loki snickered. "Is this love, Miss Erlandsdottir?" He teased.

Now it was Karnilla's turn to snort. "Hardly." She lied with ease. "I was just curious. We have become... Quite close, after all. I was wondering if we were now friends instead of allies."

"You know Karnilla, I suppose we are." Loki admitted. Then he smirked at her. "But the way you are speaking suggests something more."

"What gives you that idea?" Karnilla asked, feigning boredom.

"I am the God of Lies, Karnilla." He took a step closer to her, to whisper in her ear. "I know when you're lying to me."

Karnilla gave a breathy laugh. "Then, God of Lies," she too leaned closer, "you should learn how to lie." She leaned in close to him and their lips brushed, just barely. Loki, who had previously seemed completely in a trance, now backed away. "What?" Karnilla asked.

"No. We can't." Loki muttered. Then he shook his head. "I have already told you. I care nothing for sentiment."

Karnilla gave a grin, her usual teasing self had returned. "You still don't know how to lie." She kissed him again. It lasted longer this time, before Loki broke away again. "We don't have to tell anyone, you know." She said in a sing song voice.

"If you tell anyone," Loki threatened, "I'll- I'll-"

"You'll- you'll- You'll what?" Karnilla mocked. "Play your tricks on me? Prank me?" Then she grinned. "Come on. Would I ever?" They kissed again, both unsure of what they were doing, but not caring.

Meanwhile, things inside the palace were not going well. "Please, Erland, be reasonable." Odin begged.

"No!" Erland shouted. "You have broken the alliance! You have broken your word!"

"Erland, can't you see it's a mistake? Putting the two of them together would end in disaster! Already, there have been rumors about all the trouble they have caused together. Even on other realms! How they got from one realm to another, I have no idea, but it does not matter. They cannot marry. It would end in disaster for both our kingdoms, even if they wouldn't be on the throne."

"You have betrayed our trust, Odin." Erland said. "You made a deal, and you have gone back on it. The alliance has been broken." Erland stood up. "I'll be leaving now. And we won't be back." Erland marched out of the room, with Odin shouting after him.

"Karnilla." Erland called out to his daughter. She and Loki were laughing now, about an idea for a trick. When they heard Erland, they dropped each others hands. "Come along, Karnilla. We must go. Say goodbye."

"Yes father." Karnilla said. She turned to Loki. "Farewell. I'll see you in a few weeks?" The two kingdoms usually met up every few weeks.

Before Loki could answer, Erland spoke up. "The alliance is broken, Karnilla. We won't be coming back."

"What?" Karnilla asked. "No. Father, you can't possibly-"

"Do not tell me what I can and can't do, Karnilla. I'll give you a minute to say goodbye." He turned and left.

"This is ridiculous." Karnilla spat bitterly. "What reason could they have to break off the alliance? Bloody fools!"

"You should leave, Karnilla." Loki told her. "We can no longer be allies."

"You can't mean that, Loki." Karnilla said. "We're friends, even if our parents are no longer allies. We can still talk-"

"No Karnilla, that's done with." Loki dismissed her. "If we are to ascend to the throne one day, we must obey our father's wishes."

"Loki, you know as well as I that neither of us are getting the throne, no matter how much we want it." Karnilla said. "So, why bother? Don't tell me you weren't feeling what I was feeling." She reached out to take his hand, but Loki yanked it away.

"No!" Loki shouted. "We were never friends. We were fools to believe we could be. Now go. I don't wish to see you anymore."

Fighting back tears, Karnilla set her face in anger. "Fine!" She spat. "I'll be glad to be rid of your stupidity, Loki!" She marched away after her father.

K*K*K

Loki was shouting at his father. "How could you be so stupid! You have chased away one of our strongest and greatest allies Asgard has ever had! Do you know what breaking off this alliance means?" He threw one of the belongings in the room at the other wall and it smashed to bits.

"I had my reasons." Odin said, trying to remain calm in the face of his sons anger. "And why are you so worried? Perhaps you had found a friend in Karnilla?" He asked. Loki used his magic to send things flying.

"YOU KNOW NOTHING!" He screamed. Then he left the throne room, slamming the door behind him.

Frigga stood by her husband's side. "He has not been like this in a long time. Not since Karnilla. Maybe them being together was not so bad. Yes, they caused trouble. But I think with time they would grow out of it. Was it really so bad for them to be together."

"It is too late, now." Odin said. "Even if I again extended an alliance to Erland, he would reject it." Odin looked to his wife. "Do you really think putting them together would be a good idea? The trouble they caused, even as children, was extensive. And it was only getting worse with time. Their last trick nearly ended in one of my guards losing his life."

Frigga nodded. "I understand." She too left the room, wondering if it was really the best idea to separate her son from the one person that made him happiest.

K*K*K

Karnilla too, was shouting at her father. "You are a fool, you always have been! How is breaking our alliance with Asgard a good idea?"

"Silence!" Erland shouted. "I am the king, not you. Now leave. I have matters to discuss with Balder." The man next to him cleared his throat awkwardly as Karnilla stormed away. Erland sighed. "What am I to do with her, Balder? She's so headstrong."

"Just let her be for a while, sire. She'll cool down after a while." Balder advised.

"Yes. Yes of course. You're right." Erland sighed. "But now, I have no idea what to do with her."

"What do you mean?" Balder asked.

"I mean that, she doesn't know it, but she was promised to Prince Loki of Asgard. But now that the alliance is broken, that is broken too. I wasn't concerned then, about finding her a suitable suitor, but I am now." Erland explained. Then, he had an idea. "What if, she was promised to you?"

"Me, my lord?" Balder exclaimed in surprise.

"Yes. It makes perfect sense. You are, have always been, my most trusted advisor. You would suit Karnilla nicely." Erland exclaimed.

"My lord, I'm flattered, but I am several years older than your daughter."

"A meager amount of time in our centuries of life." Erland dismissed. "Now, will you accept this great honor? I know Karnilla would be pleased."

A quick word on Karnilla and Balder. Karnilla, even at her young age, was the most lovely girl in the whole of the kingdom. She always had young men following her around, hoping to win her favor. She played none of them any mind, except Loki. In fact, the boys were often targets for their pranks and tricks. Erlamd had turned down many a parent who wanted to promise their son to Karnilla.

Balder was the most handsome man in the kingdom. He too had many suitors. The only problem was that he wasn't interested in any of them. He was in love with two things and that was his job and battle. It was unfortunate for all the girls in the kingdom. The only one who didn't glance his way, naturally was Karnilla, who had eyes for no one, until Loki.

Their relationship was... Interesting. Karnilla used to play pranks on him. But he had no reaction whatsoever. That developed some small form of respect to him from Karnilla. She wasn't exactly friends or allies with him, but neither were they enemies.

Balder gave a nod after a moment of thought. "I would be honored my lord."

Karnilla was furious to learn that she was promised to Balder. "You're forcing me to marry that- that- peasant? That filth?" She spat out. "I'm not doing it. I'll stay a maid before I ever marry anyone, let alone him." She shouted at her father and Balder. Balder flinched while Erland's eyes flashed in anger.

"You dare defy the commands of your father? Of your king?" He roared furiously.

"I'll do what I d*** well please and I wasn't asking you." Karnilla shouted back.

"You will obey your king or you will die!" Erland said. Karnilla always knew that Erland hated her and that she hated Erland, but she never thought he would go that far. She was shocked into silence for a moment before she broke it. Her lips curled into a smirk, though her eyes reflected the cold anger she felt.

"Yes, my lord." She replied snarkily, bowing low, her smirk fresh on her lips. Then she stormed out of the throne room and marched to her room. She let out a furious scream. She clenched her fists and things around the room went flying in different directions. When she was finished with her tantrum, she cleared her throat and picked up a pair of shoes. She smoothed back her raven black hair, which looked almost purple in the sunlight. Then she made her way to the front doors. There were a few guards there who moved to block the door. It took nothing more than another clench of her fists which sent them flying with a shout.

Karnilla marched towards the secret passageways that Loki had shown her. She was certain that she had gone through the one that lead to Asgard, but she had chosen wrong. Instead, she choose one that lead to an unfamiliar realm. Karnilla examined her unfamiliar surroundings with caution, taking some slow steps forward. In the distance, something caught her eye. It was a city. A city on fire. Curiosity now peaked, she sprinted towards the city, not caring what she was doing.

Karnilla was running down a street when she smacked right into someone. When she recovered, she examined who she had bumped into. She was a young woman, no older than her. She was green skinned and had long black hair, though the ends were bright red. She was holding a long sword. Before either could say a word, they engaged in combat. The girl aimed a kick at her stomach, which Karnilla caught and threw it forward, throwing her off balance. She was obviously a skilled fighter because she recovered with ease. Karnilla aimed a few punches at her side, only one of which reached it's goal.

They struggled for a bit more, when someone interfered. A different young woman, a blue skinned one, tackled her to the ground. Karnilla kneed the girl in the stomach and scrambled to her feet to take off running. The green girl chased her and tackled her to the ground. "Enough." A deep voice resonated throughout the small street. The green skin girl pulled Karnilla to her feet and yanked her over to the man who had spoken earlier. Karnilla stared the man in the eye. He was large and purple in gold armor. "Good work, Gamora." He nodded to the green skinned girl. Karnilla was forced to her knees in front of the man. The man knelt down to her level. "The Norn Princess." He said mockingly.

"I am not a princess." Karnilla snarled at him. She struggled against her captor's grasp to no avail. "You will let me go. I am the greatest sorcerer in all the nine realms. I won't hesitate to kill you or your bloody freaks." She had no idea who she was speaking to, otherwise she might've said something more wise.

The man merely chuckled. "Bring her on board Gamora. I think we will find some use for her." Karnilla opened her mouth to protest, but she felt a sharp blow to the back of her head and the world went black.

K*K*K

Karnilla was tortured for hours. It was some of the worst pain imaginable. The man, Thanos he called himself, wanted her help in taking over one of the realms. Each time she refused him, the pain only increased and so did her longing for death. Over time, Thanos found her weakness. Her list for power. And her hatred for her father and brother. He did not find out about Loki, but Karnilla hated him now too. She never wanted to see him again. "What do you want?" Thanos boomed.

"My father and brother dead. Lying at my feet. I want- I want- my throne!" She gasped in pain and anger.

"Do as I say, and I will give you those things." Thanos told her. "Destroy the realm and I will give you the dead bodies of your family." Karnilla, breathing heavily, was convinced. She had remained defiant for many long hours. But now, she could defy him no longer.

"Where do you want me to go?"
