Because he was there"It can't be. Rory's not here."
And that was the thing, Rory was always there. He has the one constant in her life. He didn't disappear for twelve years and then reappear when things got bad, he was always there, waiting patiently for her to turn around and see him.
He'd been there when she first moved to England and he'd helped her settle in, he'd been there when the doctor disappeared for the first time and she'd been obsessed by him, he'd been there when the doctor had disappeared once again and he'd been there when he asked her to marry him and she'd said yes.
And if this was the dream, and she couldn't contemplate it not being, then she needed to get back and tell him that she loved him, and she was never letting him go. She'd never get a chance to tell him that, yes, she loved the doctor, but not anywhere near to the way she felt about him, Rory, and possibly not even in the same way.
And the thing was, He had always been there, so much so that she couldn't even begin to imagine a world without him. That didn't mean he was boring, or she'd gotten used to him. She loved him for himself, sweet, bumbling Rory, who thought she was amazing no matter what she did, she loved him because he was dependable and loyal, but mostly, she loved him because he was Rory.
And that was all there was to it.
And so, as Amy closed her eyes and braced herself for the impact, for death or possibly for waking up, she didn't know, she made her choice.
Rory. Always Rory.
