Set after "Ben There, Done That"
It wasn't like the waiting room in the clinic was empty. There was a fifty something year old woman in a trench coat Adrian would have expected to be at the bake sale being held by the Baptist Church down the street. An old man with wiry white hair and matching moustache used a pamphlet to fan himself. A tired eyed woman looked over when ever her little boy held up one of his drawings for her to admire, but her mind was obviously somewhere else.
But Adrian still felt like Will Smith's character in I Am Legend. Even glancing at the pedestrians and passing cars through the slits of the shades didn't offer her any comfort.
"What happened?" Ben had asked awkwardly.
Adrian observed the party outside. Everyone glowed not only in the energy of the wedding, but also in the fact that all there lives were taking a step forward at being "ok".
"I'm not pregnant." Adrian pushed out of her mouth.
She turned to Ben, seeing the relief spread from his smile to his widened eyes. "Oh, that's great." he spun around once, before remembering she was still in the room. Her eyes fell on his hand lightly resting on her shoulder, then his eyes, "Adrian, I want you to know that if you had been pregnant, I would have supported you in what ever decision you made. I would have taken care of our baby."
If she hadn't been looking him directly in the eyes, she still would have been able to know he was being honest.
Somehow, she slipped a grin on and nodding head, "Yeah, I know."
"Good. Ok." He added, pointing out the window, "How about we go back to the party?"
She nodded again against the hot feeling of tears pressing against the back of her eyes, "You go ahead. I'm going to need a minute."
"Ok. Sure. I understand." he nodded, at least really trying to understand. That was all Adrian figured she could ask for.
And it was all Adrian would ask for from Ben. It seemed like to much to ask anyone, to come with her to the clinic.
"Adrian Lee?" a woman's voice clicked through her thoughts.
She looked up at the nurse and raised one hand, as if having been called for attendance, "I'm over here."
The nurse offered her a genuinely friendly smile, "The doctor will see you now. Follow me."
Adrian gathered up her things and walked forward, with a lump lodged in her throat and her stomach in knots.
(A/N: Yeah, I could have written a scene with her getting the abortion, but I don't know enough about that stuff. In actuality, I'm more pro-life, but I think this show should have dealt with someone actually getting an abortion.)
