Chapter 1: The Letters
The light of a new day was approaching. The sun peeked over the treetops and into the quiet streets of the Castle Town in Soleanna. The sky was becoming a bright shade of blue, the warmest of summer breezes made the clouds slowly float. It seemed like the perfect morning, a perfect morning for a run.
Soon, a blue blur whizzed through the streets of Soleanna. A loud laughing could be heard. The blur headed into the forest. Sonic the Hedgehog, hero of Mobius, was out running. He enjoyed the feeling of running freely. He loved the feel of the wind on his face, the soft grass as his feet pounded on the fresh earth, the bright sunshine that warmed his body, and of course the exhilaration of speed. It made him feel very alive and very content.
He stopped as he hit the New City and began to stroll around freely. Even after he defeated Dr. Eggman for the final time, he still wanted to live like he always had. So he considered himself a full-time tourist and still travelled to different countries. The only difference was how he had a home base set up in Soleanna.
I could get used to this, he grinned, I have a home base, my friends live in the same area. Life is sweet, I wish it can stay like this forever!
Soon, he heard the sound of motorbike screeching to a halt. He turned to see his Rival, Shadow the Hedgehog walking up to him. "Shadow, this is pleasant surprise." He said, raising an eyebrow
"Then you'll find this more pleasing." Shadow muttered, handing him a letter from GUN
Sonic tore open the envelope and found that it read:
To Sonic the Hedgehog,
It is some to our attention that we have no formal education on your profile. It is legally written that each citizen will receive a proper education. We have currently taken action and have enrolled you in a local high school in the current region you are in. The school is called Greene Academy and it offers the finest sports and music program in the country. Since we have also tested your basic skills previously, we have placed you in grade 10. Your uniform will be sent to your home within two weeks before school starts. Please pack necessary items as this school is also a boarding school. Attached is a list of school supplies you must purchase. Have a good summer
G.U.N. Commander
"They're kidding, right?" Sonic asked, weakly
"They don't joke around, they're being serious." Shadow retorted, waving around piece of paper, "Because we're in the same grade and the same school!"
"Wait," Sonic thought, "If we both got letters, chances are everyone else got the same letters as well!"
Shadow stopped and thought for a minute, it would make perfect sense if everyone else got letters as well. "...you may have a point." he said slowly
"Okay, so we have to get a formal education. No biggie!" Sonic said nervously, "This should be the easiest thing we have to do."
"If you honestly go in with an attitude like that, you're going to be in ten worlds of wrong." Shadow grumbled
"Well, one of the two of us has to remain positive, and it usually has to be me!" Sonic pointed out, crossing his arms
"I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist." Shadow growled, "I see the truth, not always the bright side."
Sonic held up his hands in defeat, he was not going to argue with Shadow. That would just end in utter chaos, as always. "You do what you want, I have things to do now, and most of it involves shopping for school supplies." Sonic said
Shadow turned and walked back to his motorcycle. He hopped on and sped away just as quickly. "...I'll never understand him." Sonic shrugged
Sonic kind of regretted on going through with his idea, especially going out with Amy. Luckily, Amy was more concerned about school supplies than going on a date. She also seemed to be the best when picking out stuff. "Definitely get this one, it has a smoother flow than the 50 cent brand." she explained, "They also only last a few weeks, while these ones last a few months." she said, grabbing a set of pens
Sonic looked at her unsurely, holding up a set of notebooks. "One set are blank, the other set have lines in them. Read the packaging, Sonic." she said, comparing a package of highlighters.
He read the front, and turned red as a tomato. They were clearly labeled blank and lined on the package. "Sorry," he mumbled, sheepishly
"No worries, Sonic. You're lucky I still know how to shop for school supplies." Amy said, holding up a blue backpack, "This one is the perfect match for you."
Sonic just looked concerned. "Amy, can I ask you something?" he asked
"Sure, Sonic. Ask away." she said cheerfully, choosing her own backpack
"...Do you think I'm smart enough to be in school? Because I haven't been in school for a long time." he confessed
Amy turned around and gave a kind smile. "Sonic, you are definitely smart enough to be in high school. You're just a bit rusty at how a school operates. Just listen to the teachers and do your homework and you'll be fine." she answered
He gave Amy a small hug. "Thanks, Amy. I appreciate it."
Elsewhere, across the city. There were two figure sitting at a table, filling out registration forms. "Okay. Name, address, date of birth, and years attended. All complete. Now for the selection of subjects." the male figure said, "I'm taking Biology, English, History, Gym, Music Theory, Art, Math, Physics, Psychology, and Computers."
"I've already picked mine." the female said, handing her list to the male.
He glanced over it, briefly. "Band, Music History, English, Chemistry, Gym, Practical and Applied Arts, Choral, Biology, Math, and Drama. Not bad." he said, handing it back to her, "But maybe have less fine art programs and have more compulsory subjects."
"No."
He raised his eyebrow at her. "Excuse me?" he asked
"You heard me. No."
He just sighed and turned back to his own registration forms and grumbled to himself. "Oh well, can't win 'em all."
