A Gangsta drabble

by mew-tsubaki

Note: The Gangsta characters belong to kohske, not to me. My first fic for the series, but I do love it a lot… -w- Read, review, and enjoy! *Written for BlueMango for the Gift-Giving Extravaganza 2015 forum with the pairing Nina/Nicolas.

She is twelve and already understands much of what goes on around her.

For instance, take Alex. It's fairly obvious that Alex often feels as though she has only Nina to chat with, but Nina doesn't mind. Alex is nice and pretty and is new to these parts. She's new to life with the Handymen. And she's as curious as that cat Worick sent her looking for the other day.

"Can I ask you a question?" Alex asks the nurse during one of her visits.

"Sure," Nina happily chirps while sorting through some paperwork for Dr. Theo.

"About Nicolas and Worick. Well, more about Nicolas."

Nina hums happily in response.

"Why…do you like Nicolas?"

There's a tremor in her voice. It's apparent to Nina that Alex has yet to overcome her fear of Twilights. Nina doesn't blame her, no, but: "Nico is a good guy, you know," she tells Alex. "He's pleasant and very kind." Nina's voice is soft, gentle as she confides such things in the older female. Huh. It's rather nice to have another girl around besides Grandma Joel or Constance.

Alex chews on her lower lip. Eventually, she remarks, "…I kind of understand, I suppose…" She doesn't look entirely convinced, but her half-grin, though small, is genuine. She seems to enjoy their chats, too.

"Alex," Dr. Theo calls from his desk, "let Nina get back to work."

Alex winks at Nina for being scolded and waves before she leaves. Not long after, Dr. Theo heads out on some errand, locking the door behind him. All that remains is Nina and her work before her, which takes her from paperwork to inventory.

As she reorganizes the stock—because, really, Dr. Theo can be so messy and lazy sometimes when putting things back—Nina's mind drifts back to her conversation with Alex. Maybe it will take some time for Alex to realize, but Nina is the only one who can read Nicolas so easily, and that's why she can say those things so easily about him. Even Worick doesn't get him sometimes. But for Nina, it's a piece of cake, and she's glad about that, because she feels that everyone needs that one person in their life who just looks at them and understands everything in a single glance.

She is twelve and already wise beyond her years, because she knows it's love she feels for the Handyman. That's also how she knows she's the one doing the waiting, for Nicolas. Sure, she might have to grow and grow older, but really Nicolas is the one doing the growing up.

The idea amuses Nina and puts a smile on her face. Yes, Nicolas is the one doing the growing up, but Nina plans on being there to congratulate him once they arrive on the same page.

:D So kyoot… Why did you get me into this series, though, Mango? It's too much angst most of the time! D: But my apologies this isn't long enough for GGE…so head on over to "Flight" for another Nina/Nic drabble just for you. -w-

Thanks for reading, and please review!
