"Where are we going?" Sophie asked for what must of been the billionth time. Gideon had disappeared yesterday for some time, then reappeared saying that he had a surprise for her. They had ventured out on horseback in the late afternoon. Sophie was anxious to see what Gideon's surprise was.
"It's a surprise," Gideon told her patiently, "and we're almost there." They continued riding for a short time before Gideon stopped the horse. Sophie felt his hand cover her eyes. He helped her dismount the horse while keeping her eyes covered. "We're here," he whispered in her ear. Sophie opened her eyes to see what she had been waiting for since yesterday afternoon.
"It's amazing," Sophie said, taking in the sight before her. They were in the middle of the forest. It would normally be dark at this hour, but the bright light of Medianox cut through the darkness. They usually only grew in Idris. In the middle of the circle of Medianox was a blanket, with a plate of scones sitting on it. She giggled at their private joke, then turned to look at Gideon. "You're amazing. You didn't have to do any of this."
"I wanted to. I love you, Sophie Collins," he said, leaning down to kiss her.
