Avatar and its characters don't belong to me. I am only writing this for fun.
A/N:
Alright. This is my first try at writing a fanfiction for Avatar. I recently finished with the existing episodes and thought I could try something like this. I hope it is alright – sorry for any possible mistakes in the characters/ places etc.
'This is it', she said to herself, 'our last few minutes of peace until… until we either defeated the Fire Lord or are dead.' Before their last try to put the world back into balance during the solar eclipse she had not been certain they would survive either. Back then, that knowledge had bothered her a great deal more than it did now.
Of course the thought never went away completely, but it didn't scare her like it used to. The weeks at the Western Air Temple had changed her. Her waterbending had never been this strong, her moves had never been more accurate.
She was ready.
"Katara? We have to go", she heard Aang calling out. Although the final battle was so close, he sounded cheerful, almost glad to get it over and done with – so unlike their time before the invasion.
Turning around, Katara took in the beauty – the strangeness – of the Western Air Temple once again. Then, she headed for Appa. When she arrived, Aang was still looking at her, this time a bit concerned.
"You alright Katara?" he asked.
She shrugged and smiled. "Of course I am. Let's get this done."
Turning slightly, she bent some water from the nearby fountain into her "bags", closing them. Suddenly, she felt a shadow pass over her. When she looked up, she was faced with Zuko.
The moment was the most intense one they had shared since being looked up in the cave in Ba Sing Se. Her blue eyes met his…golden ones and time seemed to stop. Both forgot about their surroundings, about their friends possibly witnessing the moment. It was just them – and then it ended. He looked away and climbed Appa.
When Katara finally made it there too, she heard a voice from behind here.
"You like him, don't you?" Toph said in a whisper.
Katara ignored her at first, only answering reluctantly. "How could I possibly like the Fire Lord's son? I don't even trust him!"
Then she climbed Appa, never once looking at the firebender and sitting down as far away from him as possible.
Toph was still standing on the ground, looking up at her. With a smile one her face, she announced: "You're lying!"
The End (or is it?)
