I'm in a dog crate. Actually, I've been in a dog crate practically my whole life. Ever since I came out of my test tube, I've been treated like an experiment. I'm only a few months old. Maybe you're confused. Well, let me try to narrow this down as much as I can.
My name is Skyler. I am a test tube baby. Or, you can call me "Subject 14" if you want; that's what the scientists at the Museum call me.
The Museum is a place where these mad scientists combine human DNA and animal DNA to make a hybrid. There used to be a place called The School, but that got practically blown up awhile ago. So, these scientists created a new name. It kind of makes sense because in a museum you look at things and at this kind of Museum you can look at and "investigate" stuff. Weird, right? I know.
Anyways, I'm 13 years old and I'm an Avian-Fish Hybrid. I'm 96 percent human, 2 percent Bird, and 2 percent fish. I've never had the chance to actually test out my ability. Well, I kinda have had the chance to breathe underwater. I had to stick my head in a bucket of water for awhile. I've never flown before, but I have been wanting to all my life.
There are other mutants here but apparently they aren't as much of a success as me. The other day, I saw something that looked like a Tiger Hybrid. The poor kid had regular skin but tiger stripes imprinted all over him. Plus, he had real tiger ears and whiskers. It was freaky.
I have heard that there are other Avian Hybrids out there; 7 of them, actually. But they aren't 2 percent fish. One of the scientists here actually told me about them. His name is Jeb.
Jeb is a really nice guy. He talks to me when I'm lonely, sneaks snacks from the vending machine and brings them to me, and tells me amazing stories about the other Avian Hybrids. He was the one who actually took them away from the School.
Jeb said he will take me away from The Museum when I'm ready. I wonder when that will be. What if he's lying? But we're great friends; he wouldn't lie.
Would he?
