"GOOOAAALLL!"
Slowly bring his beer to his lips, Spike smirks as yet another easy goal is made in the soccer match on the bars TV. Enjoying the look as Giles favorite team is about to lose without scoring once, he decides to twist the knife a little, regretting only that they were the only patrons left, and the bartender had retreated to a backroom.
"You know Giles, maybe the next time we're in back home, we could bring Dawn and some of her friends to play for your team there, I'll bet they could have scored at least once. Probably wouldn't have given up as many points either."
For what would be the last time in his life though, Spike opened his mouth once too many.
For a single second the events of the past few days ran through Giles' mind, Spike suddenly showing up out of the blue, his constant harrasment and bothering, making Willow's recovery that much more difficult, and now this.
Insulting the soccer team Giles had followed and cheered on since he was a child. Although the alcohol he'd been drinking certainly made him more tender to Spike's barbs, enough was enough.
Spring into action so suddenly even Spike couldn't react, Giles quickly smashes the heavy glass stein across Spike's forhead, stunning him. Not satisfied he then grabs the back of Spike's neck and quickly pounds his face twice into the bar's wooden surface, the crack as his nose breaks is nearly loud enough to wake Willow out of her stupor. Spinning as he steps off his stool, he tosses Spike backwards, tripping him in the same motion and grabbing the stool Spike had been sitting on.
"Don't..." Spike attempts to pleads for his life, but Giles doesn't give him the chance, using his own weight to push the stool's wooden leg into Spike's undead heart.
Fixing his glasses as he looks for something to wipe away the dust now all over his shoes, Giles whispers out, "About time he shut up."
"RIPPER!"
Startled by the sudden shout by his ear, he nearly falls over as he turns around, thankfully seeing only the bartender.
"Had a bit much to drink, eh? Say, what happened to that other fellow who was with you?"
Deciding honesty is the best policy, or a half-truth in any case, Giles answers, "We had a bit of a disagreement..."
Taking in the slight mess, a few spots of blood and the broken glass, the bartender cuts him off, "I'll bet, now where's he run off to?"
"I doubt he'll be back tonight" Giles answers, "Or any other night." he adds under his breath, "I'll settle his tab, and please add the damages as well."
Grumbling as he does so, the bartender speaks to Giles as he wakes Willow, "You know Ripper, if you keep this up I might have to ban you when a game is on, just because you settle up your tab at the end of the night doesn't mean it's Ok to assault my other patrons."
"Of course. It won't happen again." Giles answers, thinking, 'Of course, once I get back to the States and tell Xander about this he'll probably buy a TV so large we'll need Willow to use magic to get it into his apartment, just to watch the games on.'
Visions of Big Sceens flashing through his head, Giles smiles as he hails down a taxi to take he and Willow back to the cottage.
