The Unexpected

The Unexpected

Chapter 1: Deceit

It was the start of summer and I had few options in terms of school. But that was the least of my problems. The titan lord Kronos was enlarging his army and on the move.

My mom had given me a few options for schools because I had been kicked out of most schools I attended. East Coast, a high school for kids with troubles. I only caused 'trouble' to protect myself. Stein High and a few others were my choices. We both knew that East Coast was clearly better. I had to start in September, which was quite a late start for me.

The day was long and boring I felt like forever. There was nothing on the T.V. and I couldn't go out side. I hoped that tomorrow was going to be better. Then there was a knocking at the door.

"Percy!" said a voice I have heard a hundred times.

"What's wrong Annabeth?" I replied in a happy tone.

"We need to get to camp and fast!"

"Why what's wrong?"

"No time, long story."

I told my mom it was Annabeth and we needed a ride to camp. We got in and Annabeth told me Mr. D was on a trip somewhere and that strange things were happening. The harpies were disappearing for hours at a time. The worst part of her story was that kids were vanishing at night and Annabeth, my mom and I knew what was happening.

When we got there we jumped out of the car and my mom drove home. We were going to spy on the camp from a distance. Night was creeping up fast and we got into position. The kids were heading to there cabins and were getting ready for bed.

The harpies came out and landed near one of the cabins. They went in and when they came out they had some of the campers in there hands. The 3 of them each had a child. They were carrying them through the night and then we saw what they were headed for …. A large figure in the shadows. He had a van and when the harpies landed the figure took one kid at a time and tied them out. The words on the van were hard to make out with my dyslexia.

The van had the word Barkers Moving Company written on it. Just moments after the van drove away and that was that.

We hadn't noticed but the harpies had spotted us and started flying at incredible speeds towards us. Without thinking I pulled out my pen and uncapped it immediately it grew into my bronze swore Riptide. At the last moment I swung and the harpy disintegrated. Then I slammed into the ground barely avoiding the other two. They turned around and I swung, I felt my blade go through nothing but air and notice the harpies didn't fall for it. They swooped up into the air and before I could block myself the harpies clawed at my arm and chest. I could fell the blood staining my shirt and running down my arm and chest. The second harpy rushed me and snuck a slash and it disintegrated. The last harpy was getting mad. The harpy charged without thought and I slashed with all of my strength and I finally won.

"Perceus Jackson!" The voice I wasn't expecting to hear. Mr. D's.
