Remus and Tonks: A Moment of Heaven
The stars were swirling outside of Number 12, Grimmald Place. Remus looked up at them and sighed, wishing he could be like a star, with no worries in the world. He did love Tonks with all his heart, but he just was not ready to take the risk and hurt her.
''Remus?'' came a voice he knew well.
''Tonks?'' he turned in surprise. He thought she was still inside with the Weasleys, Harry and Hermione.
''Molly wanted me to ask if you wanted dessert,'' she replied softly, her heart pounding.
''Oh, no thanks. I should probably continue looking for Death Eaters, or worse, Voldemort...'' Remus trailed off, uncertain of what else to say.
''I agree, but I came out here to be with you,'' she paused hesitantly, hoping that he might actually understand how she really feels about him this time.
Remus looked at Tonks, it pained him to think of how he has been treating her. He had been such a fool, he thought to himself, finally realising that she actually does love him, and she always will. Just like he will with her. She looked back at him, and gave a small smile. It was getting colder, and Remus noticed that Tonks's cheeks were turning a slightly bluish shade, now, he decided, was the time to show her his love and affections for her. He took her gently in his arms, and folded his cloak around her, covering her now shivering body.
''Thanks,'' Tonks whispered gratefully, looking him in the eyes. He really was a beautiful creature, and she did not even care that he was a werewolf. She loved him for who he was, and she did not want him to change.
''I need to apologise to you Tonks,'' he whispered softly, not caring about the Death Eater duty.
''No you don't, I understand,'' she replied, shaking her head in belief.
''Please let me. I've been a complete fool. I have always loved you Tonks, and I always will. I thought that if I distanced myself from you, it would lead you to someone else, but it has only made you much more upset, and for that I will never forgive myself,'' he finished sadly.
Tonks's eyes filled with tears. She could not believe what she was hearing, 'Remus loves me', the words sounded perfect in her mind.
''I do love you Tonks,'' he confirmed, a smile slowly building up across his face. The first in what felt like forever, actually.
''And you know I love you, I always will,'' she concluded, allowing Remus to brush a tear from her eyes.
He pulled her tight against his chest, and she rested her head against his shoulder, wrapping her arms against his waist. He arranged the cloak around them once more, and held her close, kissing her tenderly on the head. Snow started falling gently, but neither moved, not wanting to let go of this moment of perfection, this moment of heaven.
