My first challenge for Clan of Frozen Mountains forum, 'First glimpse'.
A tiny gray tomkit blinked open blue eyes. He laughed in delight at the sight of his own fluffy tail, bushy and white. Besides him, a different kit slumbered, her chest rising and falling as she twitched in her sleep.
It's beautiful!
Dewkit stared down at the soft moss by his paws, pleased that he could finally see it. When he had been asleep the kit had assumed that moss was black, like the rest of his world. Now he had colour to light his heart up.
Pale light dappled the floor, shining through the nursery walls. So far Dewkit loved everything about the sun - its warmth, its brightness and most of all its golden light. The gray tomkit knew that outside of the nursery, he would see the sun all day long. But for now he was content to watch its pale glow through thick nursery walls.
Dewkit took advantage of the light to examine his denmates. There were two other toms—a fluffy dark gray one with white spots, and a very small light brown—but the other kits were she-kits. There was a white one, a pale silver, a light color Dewkit had never seen before that looked like the pale sunlight, another silver, a vivid yellowish, and a black she-cat with ginger and white spots. The nursery was crowded, but Dewkit didn't mind. The colours and shapes he had seen today made the cramped uncomfort bearable.
A small flower caught Dewkit's eye. It was small and white. He smiled at the sight and curled up once more in his nest, shutting brilliant blue eyes and welcoming yet dreading the familiar blackness.
