"A Break of Character" Series:

Clark Kent- "Somebody Save Me, Because Its Not Easy to be Me"

By Emily Bronwen

Clark Kent sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. It was getting a bit too long again, just a little bit. He sat down on the couch and began to think about his life. He was always saving someone, usually Chloe, and always from visible enemies or enemies who took over people or something. But who ever tried to save him? Clark sighed again and wished that his parents were there to comfort him and encourage him like they always used to. Clark almost stopped breathing as he realized that he was twice-orphaned.

No, he didn't want to think about it. The world was more important than him. He remembered Chloe's face when she saw Davis dying by her own hand. It had been horrible and twisted, full of agony. He remembered her face when he had went to visit her later, she had been so calm and cool, like nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Then he remembered the intense pain and the feeling that his flesh would rip off and and his head would explode when the kryptonite began to pour down on Davis.

Clark tried to stop remembering, but he just couldn't. He tried to stop thinking, but everything just came back clearer. Nothing was working, nothing was helping. He was trapped in his memories. He wanted it to stop so badly, he wanted the pain of his memories to be numbed. He cried out aloud for something, someone, but there was nothing to ease the pain, no one to hear him. Clark Kent wanted to be saved from this world of terror.

He saw himself kissing Lana and himself transforming into the hideous beast because of the kryptonite. He saw his parents dying and himself weeping for them. He saw his worst nighmares and fears flash before his eyes.

But then he heard a voice and saw a faint light. "Kaleel, Kaleel." The voice whispered gently. "Remember why you live, what it is that you live for, who you live to save and protect and love. " The voice faded away, and he saw himself reaching out, desperately for the light.

He opened his eyes with a small sob. It was over, he had defeated the evils of his memories. He silently answered the questions that the voice had asked. He was born to save people, to protect the Earth. He lived to defeat evil and give second chances and life to others. And his friends, he lived to save them, protect them, and like the voice had said, to love them.

Clark took a deep breath and stood up, renewed and full of vigor. He went over to the mirror and looked at himself and slowly began to smile.
