As We Were
It wasn't as though she was afraid, she had absolutely no reason to be. Despite lack of reason, something about this night had her on edge. She knew she had to keep her wits about her. It was vital that she needed to be wary. Wary of what she could not say, but she knew something was wrong. Something was supposed to happen, and she couldn't remember why she knew to be wary. And perhaps that was what terrified her the most.
Really these days anything that she didn't remember terrified her. Because it was a heavy reminder of the 2-year period she couldn't remember. The two year period she couldn't remember, but could feel had changed her very being. Nervous? Anxious? Those weren't the right adjectives to describe her right now. She couldn't even begin to describe her feelings if she tried. Whatever those feelings were they all slid away when she heard a familiar screeching noise. Then all she felt was fire. Everything was hot and so very bright. She felt herself crying, tears dropping against her searing hot skin. And then she felt no more.
The Doctor found himself worried. He had figured it out. Finally. He finally found a way to save his best friend. Words couldn't begin to touch on how happy this made him. And that was what worried him. When had things ever gone as planned where she was concerned? His special companion Donna. Perhaps the only companion to truly understand him. The time away from her had him stumbling into some of his odd habits of self-loathing. Ones she would have checked with a slap. God he missed the sting of his cheeks after her hand flew across them. What would she think of him now? In his tweed, boots, and bow tie. What would she say of him and River? More importantly would she want to continue where they left off? He couldn't live in a universe where she didn't.
As he stepped out of the Tardis his hearts were pound. Why was he always late in this regeneration? If he hadn't felt a faint pulse when he crossed the room and grabbed her wrist, surely he would have lost himself. As he lifted her and carried her into the Tardis he put the what ifs out of his mind. He needed to focus on the woman in his arms. The woman with the bright red hair, who never backed down. Looking down and seeing the tears in her eyes he picked up the pace on his way to the med bay. Upon arrival he laid her down and got started on saving the most important woman in the universe.
Slowly, fuzzy vision returned to her. Blurs of colors mixed with her tears. She was still crying. Which was weird because she felt lighter than she had in years. As colors begin to settle she noticed two things. She was laying down, and there was a strange man above her. A strange man who's eyes she could recognize anywhere. "Doctor?"
"Donna Noble! Oh how I missed you! Not you hair though, had another ginger, she was younger...married and younger..."* SLAP* "Oi Spaceman! You coming to a point soon or does another slap have to come your way?"
