It had been a rough time for both Harry and Christine. Harry's girlfriend (who he was going to propose too), Margaret had left because she was being put in the Federal Witness Relocation Program after having known too much about a certain murder. Christine's husband Tony had left her because they just weren't right for each other. Their personalities completely clashed. Christine liked a nice quiet and reserved life. Tony on the other hand liked an exciting dangerous life. Both Harry and Christine had a very hard time with both of their break ups. But together they were able to help each other through the hard time. They started doing everything together. Sports games, shows, circus', you name it. Both enjoyed their time together very much.
Harry and Christine were sitting in Harry's chambers. He had just gotten two tickets for him and Christine to see the 10,000th performance of Cats; something they were both very excited for.
Harry sat down on the edge of the table. "You know, these last few weeks have been a lot of fun. I guess it's great that our lives both crashed at the same time." Christine shamefully smiled and put her hand on her head, to which Harry responded, "You know what I mean." He smiled. "It's been really nice being with you."
Christine smiled as well, "Yeah, I've liked being with you too." She thought for a second once she had heard herself then quickly corrected, "Well, not being with you... but like friends. It's been really special for me."
"For me too." Harry continued to look at Christine with a smile. He really had enjoyed his time with her and was glad to hear that she felt the same way. All of a sudden he heard himself saying, "Have you ever thought about being… with me?"
"What?" Christine asked, somewhat stunned.
Harry stammered, "Well, what I mean is that… I mean… uh, well other than when we first thought about it. Like, have you thought about it recently?"
Christine had no idea what to say. She hadn't thought about any relationships. She was only just recently recovered from the whole ordeal with Tony. And now she was dealing with him trying to get back together with her. Harry could tell by the look on Christine's face that he had just made a terrible mistake. "You don't have to answer. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up."
"No, no. It's alright." She finally managed to say. The thought of being with Harry wasn't a bad one; in fact she rather liked the idea. But was this the right time? If it wasn't then they could be completely jeopardizing their friendship. And that was far too great to lose. Suddenly, Christine realized, I am always thinking with my head; hardly ever with my heart. Look where it's gotten me… Harry is such a wonderful man and an even greater friend. Maybe… it'd be worth a shot. I mean, I really do enjoy spending time with him and we have so much fun together. "I kinda like the idea of you and I." she said with a grin.
Harry was a bit shocked. Was this his Christine? "You do?" he inquired.
Christine giggled, "Yes, I do. I know it could be risky but… I think it'd be worth the risk. You've meant so much to me."
He couldn't believe his ears! How did a thought he accidently said out loud turn into something so wonderful? But there was no time to think about that now; there were more important things to think about. "I think so too, and you've meant- you mean- a lot to me." He finally replied.
"So," Christine began, "why don't we go finish up work and then go celebrate?"
"Sounds great, but first…" he then wrapped his arms around her and kissed her. He had waited 7 years for this moment; there was no putting it off any longer. In that moment, it felt as if the past several months had just melted away. For the both of them.
The End.
