Noiz was pretty childish.
Aoba realized this quite suddenly, a breath away from sleep. He stared up at the dark ceiling. They had an interesting conversation earlier that day, but then again, it was mostly him talking 'at' - not quite 'to' – Noiz.
He had asked him why his appearance in Rhyme was that of a doctor. Noiz had just stared back, eyebrows raised the slightest bit. This behavior had always flustered Aoba, people were meant to give a response - even robots had more emotions than Noiz did. Aoba ended up deciding to simply drop the matter entirely and decided to distract from his embarrassment over the situation by introducing a new sweet, some caramels, for Noiz to try.
Aoba had never expected an answer. Noiz hadn't spoken since Aoba's question, and Aoba realized now, lying in bed, that Noiz must have simply been thinking about the issue, working things through all the logic packed into that head of his.
"I don't like doctors."
Aoba jumped a bit; he had been chewing on the caramel, something which required great focus. Throwing his grace, eloquence, and dignity to the wind, he managed to let a squishy sounding, "Eh?" pass his lips in reply. It didn't seem to make any sense to him. Maybe he was just stupid? No, no. He was pretty smart. Right?
Noiz's lips curled downwards (probably as far as they could ever go) as Aoba's mind rambled and gave him a blank stare, complete with caramel drool.
"They're intimidating. I wanted to be scary." With that, he snatched a caramel out of the distracted Aoba's hands, popped it into his mouth, and stood to leave. Aoba grabbed his arm and pulled him back down to the bench. The previously slight frown had officially progressed into a full-blown scowl. With a huff, Noiz yanked his arm out of Aoba's grasp, shoved his hands in his pockets, and walked off.
Aoba now thought, here in bed, that if anybody could make chewing an angry emotion, it was Noiz. But he did find it quite endearing. Noiz was afraid of doctors. Somehow, it helped put a crack in the big, invincible façade he placed up for the world.
The next day when Aoba saw Noiz waiting for him outside, of course equipped with various food items he hadn't yet heard of, Aoba broke out into a mischievous smile.
"It doesn't work." Aoba chirped at him. He had prepared himself to receive yesterday's same robotic look, and was not nearly as flustered when he got it today. "You're not intimidating at all."
Noiz turned his face away and started to stalk off, but Aoba scurried after him, laughing a bit. He opened his mouth to poke fun at Noiz some more, but stopped when he saw the faintest of smiles and the dusting of a blush on Noiz's face.
He smiled about it the whole day.
Thanks for making it to the bottom, I know it was a pretty rough journey.
