4 steps now. Just 4 steps until she reached the door and walked away forever. 4 steps and you know, you're life is over. Everything you've ever wanted and needed and hoped for will be gone in 4 short steps.
You're standing there, just watching her. Goddamn it! Why can't you feet move? You're mouth seems to be sewed shut and you're arms are just hanging like broken tree limbs. Mentally, you see yourself walking up to her, but physically? You're stuck in cement that's drying faster than you can say "wait."
3 steps now.
Her hair is undone from her ponytail and it's blowing in the breeze you didn't notice a minute ago. In actuality, you didn't notice alot a minute ago. The only you can remember is being told she was leaving. Oh yeah, you moved then. You sprinted down the hall in the direction of her lab. She wasn't there though. Usually, the lab is the last place you look. And usually, its where she always is. But when you decide to skip all the hiding places in between, she's not in the one place you thought she'd be.
2 steps.
The door to the parking lot looks more menacing now then it ever did. Her hand is reaching out towards it and you're still trying to stop her. You better hurry, she'll be gone before you can say her name. She'll never know how you feel about her, why you caused all those fights, why you ignored her, insulted her, and basically put her down all the time. She'll never know that while you were degrading her techniques, you were really telling her that you wanted to take her out this weekend and end up somewhere where no one could find you.

Her hand is turning the door knob. You're feet start moving and you're 3 steps behind her. She has an advantage - her legs are longer. But you're practically racing to her. You pull short when the glare of the afternoon sun hits your eyes as she pushes the plexiglass open. It's a momentary stall, but could still cost you.
Then, just as your hand reaches out to grab her arm, the door closes. SLAM! And it's right in your face too. Almost colliding with it, you watch her as she unlocks the Tahoe, and throws her bag in the backseat. And there, for a moment, she turns to you. She smiles sadly, almost as if she knew what you were trying to do. But you throw the door open anyways, as she is rounding the vehicle. She stops to watch you and you get closer...
...and closer...
...and closer...
You're standing face to face now, 4 steps apart.
3 steps. It's not you who's approaching this time.
2 steps. She looks happy now, happy that you followed her. Your eyes close slighty as she moves closer, her eyes closing too.
Good thing you can't move your feet, you think you would have fallen over as her lips connect with yours.
