He had witnessed many hangings; it was part of his job.
This one was different. He wasn't here as a U.S. Marshal.
He was here as Matt Dillon, the man who loved Kitty Russell. He was here as her witness. To see the end of the evil that had caused her such devastation.
He hadn't expected to witness her... see her stand in front of the scaffold... speak to the man who abused and nearly killed her... make him turn away.
