In the Chasm
Chapter 1: The Search
(Sonic's POV)
My name is Sonic the Hedgehog, I am an adventurer, I have been through the blizzards of Everest, the Scorching Deserts of Egypt along with its catacombs and pyramids and I have survived many encounters with the wild, but right now I am heading to a mountain that is like Everest, but bigger and badder.
I am with my crew right now, Knuckles, a tough red echidna, his partner Rouge, a bat who is a treasure hunter and finally there's Wave, a purple swallow who used to be a part of a group of misfits, the reason she left is because of the abusive relationship between her previous friends, we have been the only people who care for her.
But right now we aren't exploring, we are on a rescue mission, to save someone who has gotten themselves lost, his name is Silver, I knew him for a long time, he wanted to be like me, an explorer who took risks, but he took a big risk for his first adventure.
You could call me the equipment guy for this quest as I had the food, water, the picks, the rope and everything else you need to survive.
Right now the pilot is beginning to land, as he had found a hard patch of land to land on.

"Alright, we're heading down!" The pilot said.
The helicopter began to slowly descend and when it landed the four let themselves out.
Sonic turned to face the pilot. "Alright, head out of here, pick us up in 3 days exact"
"Alright, good luck!" The pilot shouted and left.
Sonic turned back and began to lead the group up the mountain.
"Which part was Silver on when he disappeared?" Wave asked.
"It was further up, the ranger who spotted the flare Silver shot up said to me that the height of the flare would be reachable at least 350 meters up, right now we're 325, pilot got a lucky landing" Sonic explained. "It'll take us about half an hour to get up there, minimum, not to worry though, I've got the stuff we need to get up and down"
"Good" Rouge said.
They were climbing the mountain for a little while now, 10 minutes to be precise, as they have had some struggles trying to climb up to mountain, but because of the ice and loose snow, they kept on slipping, but they then found a patch to walk on.
"I think I see it!" Knuckles shouted. "The cave!"
The others could see what he was talking about, but as they did, they heard the winds get stronger and the snow flying around the place.
"Get to the cave!" Sonic shouted.
They attempted to move as fast as they can, but they were slowed down via the ice and the snow.
The blizzard started to rage faster, which was when Sonic and Wave managed to reach the cave.
"The rope!" Sonic stated as he grabbed the rope from his pack and threw one end to Rouge and Knuckles which they caught.
Sonic and Wave pulled as hard as they can and eventually the other two managed to get in the cave, safe from the blizzard.
Everyone took a breather for about 5 minutes before Sonic broke the silence. "Everyone okay?"
Everyone else nodded as Sonic took out a canteen covered in a thick cloth filled with water, they all took separate drinks and then Knuckles took it and melted some of the ice in the cave using a lighter.
"So...now what?" Rouge asked.
"We're at the cave were Silver was supposedly went missing, he probably went through this cave" Sonic explained as he went a bit further in the cave. "and then must've explored the cave and never came back out"
"Are you sure?" Wave asked.
Sonic went a bit further in and stood on something metal, which he picked up and showed it to the others. "Positive"
Sonic had picked up an ice pick, but what stood out to him was the bite marks and faint dark stain, both on the metal.
"Bite marks and a brown stain" Sonic said. "But the marks are too big to be a mobians or humans, something else did this, I can only assume the worst for the stain"
"You think he's still alive?" Knuckles asked as he filled the canteen and chucked it to Sonic.
"Don't know, only one way to find out" Sonic replied.
Suddenly they heard something, it sounded like it came from the cave, a roar, but not of a familiar beast.
Wave came up to Sonic and tried to pull him back, but then the ground started to shake.
Sonic and Wave tried to head back, but the ice cracked below them and it sucked them into the abyss, but thanks to the ice pick Sonic had, he stabbed it into the ice and caught Wave as she fell.
"Guys!" Rouge called out as she and Knuckles looked over the edge.
"We're okay, but we'll have troubles trying to get up.
"The blizzards cleared up" Knuckles said.
"What do we do?" Rouge asked, panicked.
"Get help" Sonic motioned Wave to throw up a flare, which she did and Rouge caught. "Use the flare, they'll come in 15 minutes"
"What about you two?" Knuckles asked.
"The ice won't hold, but I do see something" Sonic spotted a ledge in the ravine. "We'll be able to get onto the ledge, then we'll figure out what to do...go!"
Rouge and Knuckles left out of the cave and Sonic took out an extra pick. "Alright hold on"
Wave held onto Sonic as hard as she can while he slowly climbed down and softly landed on the ledge.
As they landed, they were infront of another cave.
"We're not going to..." Wave asked.
"No, we'll wait" Sonic said.
But as he said that the ledge started to crack on the weight forcing them to head in.
"That backfired" Sonic said.
They took a few steps back and fell onto an ice slide which took them to another part of the cave, but this had something in it, it was lighter at the very top, while at the bottom, it was darker than the void itself.
They were standing on a ledge which filled half the hole.
"Why is it brighter at the top?" Wave asked.
"Must be thinner at the top, possibly to the top of the mountain" Sonic said.
Sonic then noticed the scratch marks over the walls, the floor and some parts of the walls had looked like it had been clawed out.
"Something's been climbing up the chasm" Sonic pointed out.
"And it must have fallen down multiple times" Wave said.
Sonic grabbed a piece of ice and dropped it down the chasm, waiting for the sound of the smash.
It had occurred after 5 seconds.
"5 seconds, it's definitely deep" Sonic said and planted a spike into the wall. "Keep the rope and spike steady, don't let it break"
Sonic handed Wave a walkie-talkie and wrapped the long rope around the spike and tied it in a alpine butterfly loop.
"I'll tell you when to slightly let go, but try and push it towards me" Sonic commanded as he set himself up and connected to the long rope.
Sonic slowly walked over the edge and began to lower himself down, with a powerful light that would illuminate around the chasm.
"Lower" Sonic said in the walkie-talkie.
Wave did as he asked and slowly lowered Sonic.
Eventually the rope reached it's limit, Sonic took the light and changed it to shine in a beam.
Sonic then saw what was causing the marks on the wall, he shined it at a long crimson tail with a reptilian shell on it's back, but when he saw the head.
"Wave, get me back up, now!" Sonic demanded.
"Alright" Wave said.
Wave pulled the rope and after a while, she pulled him up.
"What did you see?" Wave asked.
"Something I never wished to see again" Sonic said.
"What?"
Sonic took a couple of panicked breathes before saying: "The Bio-Lizard"
