A tear rolled down Lily's cheek as she signed the name.
James Potter.
He knew that she knew about drunken one-night stands and one or two affairs. He didn't know that she knew about Sirius. That affair was one that should still be a secret.
James didn't know that Lily had come home from work early that night. That night. The night that James and Sirius had finally told each other of their love. James didn't know that Lily had been listening through the door when he and Sirius had made love.
James had been in the same room when they signed the paper, three months after. So was Sirius. Holding James's hand. A month later, it was over, and Lily reverted back to her maiden name.
