Author Notes: Another thought I needed to work out after watching The Water Bending Master, Return to Omashu and The Chase. Katara's good, but she's not that good. Not yet.

------

"Here the women learn from Yugoda to use their water bending to heal…"

Why wasn't the wound closing? Why wasn't her water doing its job? The sacral and solar plexus points were ok—she thought; but the tertiary burns slowly opened, revealing the raw and reddened muscle beneath. She tried again. She wouldn't give up.

Katara wiped at her brow. Maybe she was too tired to—

"You said you could help." A gravely voice spoke from just behind her. "Was that a joke?" But his tone lacked conviction; too tired and grieved for anger. "Leave us."

The water bender blanched; Zuko's weariness more piercing than his anger.

Why wasn't her water doing its job?

"I don't want to heal. I want to fight!"

Her own damning words answered her.

End Notes: I don't think Katara honed her healing skills in the North Pole. She was much too focused on using her bending for fighting and not healing that I don't think she could have spent her time on both disciplines. If she did, logic dictates she shouldn't have any difficulty blocking or at least, reversing Ty Lee's attacks.
